Colorado (officially known as the Duchy of Colorado), is a duchy under the direct rule of the Empress of the Renoan Empire. While the Empress rules there as "Caesarin" and is recognized as the supreme leader, the main administrative power seems to rest in that of the Duke of Colorado, located in Herculaneum. It is entirely within the region of Southern California, spanning from the southern edge of the San Joaquin Valley at the town of Delano in the north to the border with Mexico in the south, the Pacific Ocean and Channel Islands(which are also considered to be part of its regional territory and thus part of the Renoan Realm) to its west and the Mojave, Sonoran, and Nevada Deserts to the east. Its eastern boundary is defined largely by its geography and topography with the Colorado River, it's namesake, defining much of its eastern border whereas its western border ends at the Pacific Ocean. It's Northern and Southern border are not as clearly defined, however, as they extend farther beyond some of the high rising Desert mountains in the area; its northern border extending some 100 miles (160km) north of the Tehachapi mountain range and its southern border extending some 70 miles (110km) south of the Chocolate Mountains to the southern end of the Imperial Valley. Outside of the Duchy of Utah, much of Colorado's unincorporated territory is dry, arid desert and one of the driest places on Earth. It boasts wonders such as Joshua Tree National Park and the Salton Sea, one of the saltiest lakes on the planet next to the Dead Sea. It also is home to the the megaopolis that is the Los Angeles and San Diego metro areas. However, as only 3 people out of its some 20 million residents are actual Renoan citizens, they are not counted as part of the official population being defined as "unincorporated subjects". While the official capital and, if officially incorporated, it's largest city and the largest city in the Empire, is Los Angeles, it's formal capital is Herculaneum.
