The Weiss Lake Republic, also known as the 'WLR' for short, is a landlocked micronation located in northeastern Alabama, United States. The Weiss Lake Republic was founded on 4 June 2023 by President Lambert and President Robbins as a successor state to their previous micronation known as the Circel Republic. The Weiss Lake Republic is named after Weiss Lake which it borders.

On 30 August 2023, the Weiss Lake Republic went on hiatus for seventeen days. During this hiatus, its territories were expanded, borders were redrawn, and a new flag was designed before officially returning on 16 September 2023.

On 13 October 2023, a constitution was officially ratified by the Weiss Lake Republic.

The Weiss Lake Republic is a member of the League of Micro Nations, having joined the League on 22 September 2023.

History

The Circel Republic

In late 2021, Lambert and Robbins discovered a small crop circle in a field by their local school. Both of them jokingly claimed it as their own nation and formed the Circel Republic with both of them serving as its leaders. Eventually, they learned of the concept of micronations and began working on improving the newly-formed republic.

The Weiss Lake Provisional Government

In late 2022, Lambert and Robbins moved away from the Circel Republic and more towards an idea of uniting the lake that they lived by. On 27 December 2022, Lambert, Robbins, and three other associates formed the Weiss Lake Provisional Government and elected Lambert and Robbins as co-presidents. The provisional government began making preparations to declare independence.

Early Days and Hiatus

On 4 June 2023, President Lambert and President Robbins formally declared independence and formed the Weiss Lake Republic. These early days of the republic were met with a lot of struggle and inactivity, and on 30 August 2023, the Weiss Lake Republic officially went into hiatus.

The hiatus lasted sixteen days. During this time, the co-presidents dealt with their struggles and improved the nation. Their new territorial claims expanded the nation, the internal borders were redrawn, a new flag was designed, and work began on writing a constitution. On 16 September 2023, the Weiss Lake Republic left hiatus and the nation entered a new era.

A New Era

Following the hiatus, the Weiss Lake Republic began improving greatly. The Republic established diplomatic relations with several nations and eventually joined the League of Micro Nations on 22 September 2023. Following a popular vote by the citizens of the Weiss Lake Republic, the nation's first constitution was ratified by the government on 13 October 2023.

On 22 October 2023, Oakley Robbins was appointed as governor of Oakley County by the co-presidents, making him the first non-human citizen to hold office.

Politics and Government

The Weiss Lake Republic is a presidential republican diarchy. It is led by two co-presidents who serve as both the heads of state and heads of government. It also a representative democracy where citizens elect people to represent them in government.

The government is divided between three branches:

Executive branch

Headed by the co-presidents, the executive branch is responsible for enforcing and executing the laws of the nation. Each co-president is elected via popular voting by citizens.

Legislative branch

The legislative branch is made up of a unicameral legislature known as the National Assembly. There are always at least 9 seats on the Assembly with 3 seats being added for every 30 citizens. There are currently 9 seats. Members of the National Assembly are referred to as 'representatives' and are tasked with drafting, debating, and passing laws. Representatives for each seat are elected via popular voting by citizens.

Judicial branch

The judicial branch is split between the Supreme Court, county courts, and munincipal courts. The Supreme Court is tasked with interpreting and defending the constitution of the Weiss Lake Republic and is responsible with dealing with the most severe of cases. There are 5 justices on the Supreme Court, all of whom are appointed by the co-presidents with approval from the National Assembly.

Any changes to the constitution and the government's structure requires a two-thirds majority from the National Assembly, approval from both of the co-presidents, and a majority vote from the citizens following an informative constituional convention.

Military

Currently, there is only one branch of the military: the Weiss Lake Army. The Weiss Lake Army serves as the Weiss Lake Republic's primary defense force and law enforcement due to its size. The Weiss Lake Army is under the command of the co-presidents who serve as the Commanders in Chief of the Army.

Geography

The Weiss Lake Republic has a humid subtropical climate, resulting in hot, humid summers and mild winters. Rain is common throughout the year, especially during the summer months. To its north and east is Weiss Lake, the nation's namesake.

Economy

The Weiss Lake Republic has a free market economy, the government only rarely stepping in times of crisis or to prevent monopolies from rising up and controlling the market. Most business transactions are either done using the US dollar, the Weiss Lakean mark, or through bartering.
