The Partisan Republic of the Tieghistan, commonly known as Tieghistan (Italian: Repubblica Partigiana del Tieghistan), is an unrecognized self-proclaimed socialist republic that has been described as a micronation by foreign observers. Tieghistan is an hilly country located in the de jure territories of the italian province of La Spezia. The Republic is ruled by a communist partisan movement called the Tieghistan National Liberation Army or TRNA in short.
History
The First Convention
In 2021, Zallo (real name unknown), called for a convention for the creation of a breakaway socialist republic in the territories of the province of La Spezia in Italy, citing the "unlawful" annexation of the Ligurian Republic to the Kingdom of Sardinia-Piedmont following the Congress of Vienna as the primary reason. The State was initially supposed to be a federation called "Free Republic of the Ghiaccio" and a single socialist party was supposed to guarantee the stability of the newborn State. The plans were initially supported by some "comrades" from neighboring tuscan provinces and Milan but they later withdrew support for lack of interest in the region and the independence plans fell through.
The Second Convention and the birth of the Nation
In 2023, independence plans were revived by a newfound interest in micronationalism leading to the call of a second convention and the creation of the Partisan Republic of the Tieghistan. At the second convention, Zallo's Valeist faction, that wanted a strong federative one-party socialist state, lost to the zapatist faction led by Tiego (real name unknown), who favored a dominance of the armed militias rather than the civil-bureaucratic apparatus and a vanguard party. For this purpose the unified Tieghistan National Liberation Army was founded and Tiego was appointed Paramount Commander of the new military formation, with Zallo appointed as his second-in-command.
In November 2023 the Tieghistan National Liberation Army established the People's Tribunate with parliamentary functions, the Tribunate, taking its name from the roman tribunes of the plebs, is composed of a variable number of members directly appointed by the TRNA leadership, every member is part of the army, making the country an example of a stratocratic dictatorship, even if the country's authorities prefer to emphasize the socialist and popular nature of the Government. Shortly after its establishment, the Tribunate voted unanimously to make the office of Paramount Commander elective by universal suffrage, with an 8-year mandate and without limits on re-election.
Economy
The economy of Tieghistan is rather simple and almost entirely formed by the gathering of resources in the forest: fallen trees are used for firewood and fruit, mainly apples, cherries, plums, persimmons, figs and kiwis are harvested and used for internal consumption. All land is directly owned by the workers who work it and the profits are equally divided among the workers themselves, this is a form of market socialism. The activity of wild boars makes it difficult to grow vegetables without appropriate investments which are lacking. The electricity produced by the nation is entirely renewable and comes from solar panels, fireplaces are used. All organic materials are composted. The country does not have a sewage system and instead uses septic tanks.
Trade, Monetary and Fiscal Policy
Tieghistan's main trading partner is Italy, from which energy, firewood, food, clean water and other products of industrial origin are imported. Tieghistan mainly "exports" specialized and simple labor to Italian companies and cooperatives, mainly in the tertiary sector. As of November 2023, the nation does not have a central bank or its own currency, this is because the use of money within the country is rather limited; citizens use euros for trading with foreign countries. Tieghistan collect various taxes that are directly given to the Italian Republic as a form of foreign aid.
Unemployment and Education
As of November 2023, unemployment is very high in the country with 55,5% of its citizen being unemployed, this is manly due to the fact many citizens are currently studying in tertiary education, the population of Tieghistan is considered highly educated and the literacy rate is 100%. From October 2023 to November 2023, the number of NEETs in the country dropped to 0, which is a major success.
Nature
The nature of Tieghistan is very diverse despite the country's small territory, and has been carefully mapped by the Government. The most common trees (which cover approximately 95% of the territory) are pines, acacias, chestnuts, apple trees and turkey oaks. In the country there are also sheep, ponies, chickens and roosters but they aren't owned nor exploited by the citizens. In the area there are also wild animals, like wolves, boars, roe deers and foxes. In 2022 some wolves were spotted in the southern area of the country and killed three sheep. As of November 2023, 100% of the tieghistani families have both a dog and a cat and vegetarianism and its variants are practiced by a sizeable amount of citizens.
Religion
Tieghistan is a nation that practices state atheism, despite this the State guarantees freedom of worship to its citizens and mainly places limits on the clergy, the state could also push its citizens towards atheism through education which is fully nationalized and free of charge. Although atheism is the dominant religious attitude in Government action, as of 2023, only a third of the population defines itself as atheist or agnostic, just under a third believes in Catholic Christianity and more than a third is spiritual but irreligious. In Tieghistan there are no official churches or other temples and religious schools are banned.
Politics
The Tieghistan National Liberation Army controls all of the country's politics with methods described by observers as illiberal, authoritarian and totalitarian. The TNLA describes itself as a broad united front of socialists and communists united by Tieghistani leftist nationalism as well as populism and anti-imperialism. The country's economic line can be identified as a form of market socialism. Some factions and personalities use other labels such as pan-Ligurianism, valeism, neozapatismo and straight edge.
Political Factions
In Tieghistan there are no political parties or other political organizations but the TNLA, however different approaches to socialism are officially allowed within the army and the People's Tribunate. Below are listed the official factions and their ideological peculiarities.

2023 Paramount Commander Elections
Elections for the appointment of the Paramount Commander took place the 13th of November 2023, the first elections were held during the Second Convention with restricted suffrage and Tiego was unanimously elected for the subsequent 8 years. The next elections are scheduled for not later than November 2031, by universal suffrage for every citizen with at least 16 years of age on the day of the election, in case of more than two candidates a second ballott will take place. All of the candidates must be in service in the Tieghistan National Liberation Army and must be at least 21 years old.
2023 Army Ranks Reform
In the days following the Second Convention, a reform of the TNLA was discussed to make its command in the field easier and more agile. Zallo and other Valeist elements proposed a more traditional but still simple military hierarchy, composed of seven ranks and divided between troop, officers and senior officers with the Paramount Leader on top of the hierarchy. The proposal was opposed by Tiego, who instead, after a lenghty debate, approved a simpler and less hierarchical division, officially creating four ranks: Comandante Supremo (paramount commander), Luogotenente (lieutenant), Caposquadra (squad leader) and Soldato (soldier).
Foreign Relations
Tieghistan is not internationally recognized by any UN country, but the People's Tribunate has unilaterally approved diplomatic recognition to almost every recognized state in the world (with the notable exception of Israel which is considered by the State to be an illegal imperialist colony). Molossia, Austenasia, Seborga and Sealand are also recognized. Tieghistan has the desire to mantain its independence and non-alignment towards any military or economic alliance in the world. The leadership has also criticized the Russian Federation's "imperialist" invasion of Ukraine and has similarly criticized NATO's "expansionist and warmongering" aims. The government of Tieghistan reacted negatively to the formation of the Meloni government in Italy for its neo-fascist roots, but has confirmed that is willing to have warm relations with the Italian people and their elected parliaments, Tieghistan also offers high quantities of foreign aid to the Italian Republic.
