Stani currency

The all-purpose currency of Stan is the palm, a token community currency pegged to the value of the February 1985 US Dollar at a rate of 1⒫:$10, but worth much more because of all the joy that comes with it. The palm has 8% demurrage and is modeled on the Chiemgauer. There are twenty four palmettos to a palm. Palmettos are rounded-diamond-shaped and nicknamed "kites" and are made of heat and chemical-treated brass and steel to generate a ROYGBIV color coding scheme according to value with ⒫1 being red, ⒫2 being orange, ⒫3 yellow, ⒫4 green, Ṕ6 blue, Ṕ12 indigo, and Ṕ24 violet. Paper money is denominated in values of Ṕ1, Ṕ7, Ṕ30.437, and Ṕ365. Citizens carry a limited amount of cash in vertical wallets, with coins being kept in card-sized cases. Coins and bills are differently-sized and bills are vertical and use large, high-contrast numbers and tactile features for accessibility, inspired by Bank of Canada banknotes. Other design inspirations include Cook Island Currency and the Mexican 50 Peso Note.

The chief commodity currency is the gal (symbol-⅁), divided into lit (pronounced LEET) (symbol-ł) with 3.785 lit to a gal, and printed on repurposed Galalith button-stock. The gal and lit correspond to one gallon or liter of Lacaune sheep's milk, respectively. They are collectively called milk coin and are the world's only milk-backed currency. The milk standard is more susceptible to inflammation than inflation. 75% of reserves are in long-term storage as Lacaune sheep's cheese, with the remaining 25% as liquid assets.

In mid-January 2023, due to the popularity of milkcoins and a recognized need to diversify, the Crew of Stan voted unanimously to hold reserves of several non-perishable and semi-perishable foodstuffs and issued corresponding coins including liquorcoin, saltcoin, and ramencoin.

Saltcoin's most popular collectible coin is the 25 pound piece, the so-called "gold boullion."

A further development in Stan's commodity economy are "green coins," representing government reserves of key natural resources, some renewable, some non-renewable. These include: freshwater, soapnuts and bladderwrack. The latter two are popular direct-barter items. Kola nuts also have ceremonial significance due to Stan's Soda City founding lore.

There are automatic currency conversion machines around town to facilitate transactions in the numerous other currencies present in Stan due to the high number of nano and pico nations located there. Popular examples include the Carolinius (divided into Carols) and Boomshakalocolate (divided into Chips), the latter being denominated all in chocolate coins that are quarter and penny-sized respectively. They experience zero inflation but a constant shortage. People also trade in IOUs and unrealized childhood dreams.

Stani Reserves are held in Kuwaiti Dinars and black, white, and green tea bricks. So-called "hard candy tea bricks" (hard candies containing rare medicines strung on a necklace, bracelet or anklet) are used on a limited ceremonial basis. Garnet and malachite coins are also awarded for service to Stan. A single corundum one palm piece exists and is worn in the breast pocket over the heart of the sovereign at all times. It is the sole coin bearing the face of Stan, who represents the people and the sovereign's service to them. The acting sovereign always possesses the corundum coin, therefore, while a Hootie may wear the crown during periods of delegation, the appointee will be in possession of the coin. A purple jade copy of the corundum coin is given to foreign dignitaries and honorees.

Regarding monetary policy, Gresham's law is under review by the leadership of Stan.

Kava and other materials for tea bricks are undergoing feasibility study.

To promote childhood literacy, Stan has pioneer Litcoin, The first literacy focused cryptocurrency which issues tokens based on a “proof of reading” model after students take tests on books they’ve read.
