Time in Stan

For measuring time, Stan employs CSR, the Concurrent System of Reckoning, a combination of Standard Time (ST) and Future Standard Time (FST). By default, events are discussed in the future-present tense, as if the events and structures present in FST were current. This is helpful for planning purposes, or what is more commonly called "constructive imagination." FST is exactly eighty years ahead of the present.

Time in Stan is in and out of sync with South Carolina time depending on the time of year, since Stan does not observe Daylight Savings Time.

Stan lays claim to the entire territory of South Carolina. On the present timeline, however, it maintains borders that coincide exactly with those of Polis, with plans to expand at an unknown time in the future. Some people are able to travel to the time after the expansion in their minds, but details are fuzzy.

So far, 0% of the physical infrastructure of Stan has been built. Stanis are unfazed by Parkinson's law.

Other notes on time: Stan practices SMT or slow metabolic time, where everything seems to go more slowly because of intentional pacing. An old man and woman bearing the titles Horologius and Horologia sit on the State House steps daily and make sure everything stays calm.

At a certain point, the Hootie learns to travel back-and-forth through time, that is to say, to reconnect with inner child, Young 'un and the adolescent self, Slim, using the prism sundial and eventually by simply saying Oh boy, oh man....
