Overview

STAN is an acronym standing for System of Tribal Area Networks but is rarely capitalized. The Stani Economy is an Low-Interest-Underground Open Georgist-Distributist-Localist Subsidiarist Associative Mixed Eco-Social Natural-Gift-Prestation-Symbiotic Blue Circular Economy with foundations in Sabbath and Humanistic Economics and the art.coop economy and enjoying the backward advantage.

For information about Stani currency, see this stub: Draft:Stani currency

In addition to all of the officially-denominated currencies within Stan there is an exonumic grey market which the government actively encourages, within which value of the token is fixed by the parties to a transaction. Though a gift and natural mixed economy prevails in Stan, there is also study of Mises branch Austrian Economics, Supply-side economics and Market Monetarism (Wickselian and Woodfordian). Production is post-Jack Welch. There is moderate support for collaborative robotics. The preferred cobot is Sawyer (Black Edition). All of Stan was built using Appropedia, Sawyer, RepRap and off-the-shelf parts. Stan has made a commitment to capping automation with the of adoption Sawyer, which should allow for an optimal blend of global competitiveness and autarky. Stan seeks to promote Stanthropology--or an approach to culture and economics from the Stani point of view.

Sharing Economy

Stan seeks to push the limits of the sharing economy. There is a citizen portal called "Stan Share" with a seed library, a street corner library, and a tool library. Barter and skill sharing are the preferred methods of payment in Stan, but businesses and individuals always pay an Anker Living Wage.

Tourism

Tourism is a major part of the Stani economy due to the myriad ways to get around and the fact that Stan can be reached just by closing one's eyes. Stan is also the number one Couchsurfing destination in the world.

Local Businesses

All corporations in Stan are B Corps. At the site of the USC Soccer practice facility, there is Globall, with glow in the dark world sports being played indoors, anchored by soccer, basketball, ladder toss tag, table tennis, bowling and trampoline dodgeball. Glow in the dark lacrosse and jai alai draw large crowds of spectators. There is a thrift store called World Thrift, which contains surplus from thriftstores around the world, as well as global retail surplus. There is an ugly fruit and freegan outlet called Seconds and a beverage superstore called Ack-o-haul and Canvabis, a cannabis store with a roller-mouted canvas for customers to decorate after purchase and use of their product. Atop Groucho's Five Points is Beero's, a walkup Gyro stand with import beers. Atop Harambe is Hakuna Masala, African and Indian fusion. There is a chain called Micronation Macrobiotics. Forest Acres is home to Primeval Times, where guests hunt a boar in a jungle enclosure and help their guide cook it over a fire. Star Bar in Five Points is astronomy-themed with seated and standing telescopes throughout and is next to Harambe and Hakuna Masala. Stathera is the chaebol that administers business in Stan. Black River is the agricultural subsidiary. ErgoHome sells e ink equipment and ergonomic equipment and assessments with a pop-up store at flea markets. Advertising is creative in Stan, including a solar RC plane that circles town with a sponsored banner during Gamecock Football tailgating and downtown Columbia's lunch hour and a social media meme of one-liner facts called #stanfacts, akin to Chuck Norris Facts. While Stanis traditionally wash clothes by hand, there is rumored to be an underground laundromat called Washhhhhh.

Demographics

Stan is home to lots of former cult members. They come to heal. It is warm, but not as warm and attractive as Florida and California where most cults probably are, so it does not get too crowded. In addition to PAPis, there are also NPIs or no Non-participating individuals, a fact which the Hootie does not often admit.

Food production

In Stan, Finlay Park has been renamed "Foodly Park". It contains the world's biggest pond aquapini, a pond aquaponic version of the ancient South American Walipini, a partially-underground greenhouse taking advantage of the superior insulating abilities of earth. The official method of food production is strictly Square Foot Permaculture Agroforestry. Anarcho-syndicalistic cooperatives produce food on land grants that are intended to be retained within people group in perpetuity. Participatory economics is also part of the food production labor model.

Housing and architecture

Some permanent government structures are influenced by the Aztec and Ancient Alexandrian cultures but most are modeled after the Zeynel Bey Tomb, with all of the ministries being found on Ministry Row in identical adjacent buildings, while temporary structures (also frequently used by the government) are extremely varied and influenced by practically all of world culture, and more recently, the solar punk movement. Sequoia Hive is a megatower next to Cornell Arms and is a first port of arrival for many Stani immigrants, who later move to Zomes, Yomes or other single-family housing. Dymaxion houses, earthships and 3D printed houses are popular on the outskirts of Polis. Some interior features include Murphy beds and other tiny home features, fireman poles and pulleys as well as pedestals for leaning against walls with one's elbow. House boats have become very popular on Lake Murray. At first, development was unlimited, then it was first-come-first-served with a cap, now there is a lottery. High-speed boat traffic has given way to slow traffic like that found in Ganvie. A group of people inspired by the Sama-Bajau live in the newly-clarified Lake Murray as well. There is an emerging group of new Stani arrivals who have not yet entered tribes and live aboard a slow-moving train circling Stan, known as the Trainees.

Health and healthcare

Stani healthcare is based on prevention, with prominent features including posture and gait correction, inversion tables, home cervical traction and foot baths for lowering somatic pH. Ergonomic walking and standing desks and early intervention with trauma-informed community development mean lower negative health outcomes and crime. Vagus nerve reset via balance boards is also central. A Blue Zones study committee exists. Stanis support the Spontaneous Remissions Project and recognize that the most important element in healing is the awareness of the presence of a nurturing caregiver.

Energy

The Stani energy grid is the most reliable and technologically-advanced in the world. There is a combination of flywheels, flow, NiFe and thermal batteries as well as gravity and compressed air grid storage with aeromine turbines atop buildings for energy production. LFTR technology is under review to support the growing population, which could double in 2024 if three more people consciously join. The City of Columbia provides all utilities for unwitting citizens of Stan.

Transportation

A Roamin' Bicycle Camper

Transportation is highly diversified and efficient since all routes were designed by slime molds and Polis is a 15-minute city, Cittaslow Supporter and Strong Town. Additional planning happens within Second Life, Cities Skylines and Dwarf Fortress. Noteworthy transportation features include the prominence of the unique "Grasshopper" system of launch rail-enabled natural gas plug-in hybrid gyrocopters based on the AutoGyro USA Calidus and Aviat Husky with access to Tesla Destination Chargers via Tesla Tap adapters and a custom-built fleet of Calfee bamboo e-bikes with airless tires, stepless hub transmissions, mid-drive motors, and belt drives as well as a small fleet of solar velomobiles made with monocoque Milliken Tegris® Thermoplastic Composite fabric, wood or bamboo bodies, and the same internals as the e-bike fleet or with flywheels. There are also numerous Makerplanes and Makercopters, a 3D printed gyrocopter design from Makerplane. The Tabby EV platform and Laidback Landsailers wind-powered recumbent "boats" are also being researched.

To improve transit ridership in Polis, a roller coaster was built and named EHH, since the route was Elmwood-Huger-Hampton and back. This was the default option for luxury rides for four or fewer around downtown. The system operated ten cars at a time and could therefore serve 40 customers at one time. It operated on Assembly Street with minor track switching capabilities and fast stopping mid-route. After a year of operation, it was converted to a Shweeb racer system. There is a bill to introduce the VAL, or Vertical Addressing Layer, to allow for a standardized way to generate a vertical dimension to physical addresses for air delivery.

Also of note are "the slides", a mechanized system of fully-enclosed slides that usher "Sequoia Hive" employees to their last-mile transport. Landings are aided by trampolines, jetpacks, mini-parachutes and assistive exoskeletons. The slides are part of a more elaborate conveyance system within Sequoia Hive that includes fireman's poles and sensor-activated mini-escalators. An express elevator mode serves every tenth floor of the 200-floor building during peak hours.

Private vehicle ownership is an option that exists but has not been exercised for obvious reasons.

Stan would like to petition support for a feasibility study for ET3, Elevated Evacuated Tube Transport, but is unlikely to succeed since it would be a tube to nowhere. More diplomatic relations must be established first--maybe with Charlotte. Anyone who knows the plot of Merger knows it will put a damper on all of this.

All transportation is coin-operated. Traffic is one-way.

There is a three-part non-mixed-use system of roads and pedestrian walk ways known as 3B, or "3 Beltways".

B1 is a pedestrian moving sidewalk color-coded green introduced to eliminate "pedestrain" in order to increase walking. It is cross-shaped and bisects town, corresponding to Main and Senate Streets. Green Street is completely car-free and is famous for boatboards, which are recumbent bicycles and Whikes which are intermittently powered by a road oar.

B2 is a moving road loop corresponding to Huger, Blossom, Bull, and Elmwood Streets which is for Bus Rapid Transit traffic only. The city has a fleet of 4 double-decker biarticulated Auto Tram Extra Extra Grand BRT buses (512 passengers each) with a total system capacity of 2048 concurrent riders. BRT platforms are two floors and the buses feature automatic sliding doors.

B3 is for velomobiles and bicycles and is also a moving road on Gervais Street.

Throughout the regular-use streets the Crawling Beetles--Tourguided VW beetle cabs painted like various beautiful beetles from around the world--can be seen.

There is also a horse named "Transit" with powered mobility aids around its legs to look more awesome and run faster with less effort.

Rosewood and Devine are only for Donkboards and have been renamed Rowswood Drive and Push Street.

All transit is served out of a multimodal hub called "The Heart" located at the lot next to the State Museum. There are satellite stations for bikes and longboards throughout the city and for velomobiles on the edges of town.

The "Mainline" is an air lane serving gyrocopter and zipline hanglider traffic and cuts diagonally from "Mainline 1" at I-126 with a stop atop Sequoia Hive and terminating at "Mainline 2" atop 2009 Greene Street. Both the zipline and gyrocopter feature quick-releases detailed in YouTube video of electromagnetic launch rail (insert).

Food deliveries are conducted via Rope Lines with standardized steel boxes locking into the cable. Similar technology is used to disengage the hang gliders from the zipline on Mainline. The Sandwich Delivery Network, or SDN, is a series of vacuum tubes capable of delivering sub sandwiches around downtown. Airships also deliver some cargo, as does the ASX Sigma-6 system. There are no stoplights in Stan. Indian intersections are a best practice. Polis is the first city to achieve a Walk Score of 1000. Assembly Street features rollers for surfing, as does the bottom portion of Huger and Gadsden between Hampton and Taylor. Both have Swchweeb racer systems overhead. The State Fair ski lift system has been expanded and terminates at Capstone where riders can view Columbia from an observation deck or eat. There are talks to extended the same capabilities to the Truist building and Capital City Club. Kite land boarding is popular but is usually relegated to West Columbia. Other vehicles include the Honda ACTY drawn by noma miniature ponies and the Isuzu Elf drawn by a bicycle.

Transportation-oriented economic development and special economic zones

Jim B. Hamilton Owens Airfield, renamed New Kittyhawk, is an aviation innovation hub. Hobbyists and tinkerers modify and service the Air Creation Tanarg and Maker Plane within the Flying V Cooperative. There are ground effect, closed wing, toroidal propeller enabled planes operating from Rivertown across various river and land routes.

Manufacturing

Roids is a toroidal propeller manufacturer in Cayce. Shark wheels for various industries are also produced in Stan. A cornerstone of the economy is combinative fabrication or comfab, done mostly by hand and combining useful artifacts into one for increased functionality. The auriani are the pioneers of this creative reuse and have developed the hanger umbrella and adult sippy cup.

Economic Development

There are plans to turn all of Columbia's US-1 corridor into a flea market in 2024.
