The Republic of Astain, also known as The Kingdom of Astain was a micronation in North America. Located in the Southwestern United States, Kuril Islands of Russia, the Arctic Archipelago in Northern Canada, Clipperton Island, and several other outlying islands, it covered several thousand square miles of land spanning multiple time zones. However, the majority of the population resided in Luxhagen, the capital of Astain, completely surrounded by the U.S. state of California. Astain was at first an elective absolute monarchy, quickly transitioning into the Republic of Astain, a federal presidential republic, with the President of Astain serving as head of state. For more than half of the micronations existance, the president was Adam Snebold, though Bennett Zhang served as president between February 2017-May 2017 and June 2018-October 2018, as well as Edon Stark serving as president between February 2018-June 2018.

History

New Kingston (The name of the country before being called "Astain") declared independence from the United States on November 11th, 2016. Adam Snebold, at the age of 11, was declared the ruler of the nation, though the structure of the government wasn't formed by this point. Bennett Zhang was also declared to be the secondary head of state at the same time. The micronation also did not have a defined capital, though the first video on YouTube explained how there were small cities with no population. The first cities named were the Ashland Mountains, West Kingston, and East Kingston. To further explore the areas of Astain that were not yet explored, the president of New Kingston went on a expedition to the Ashland Mountains and the newly created city, the Ashland Valley, between November 13th, 2016-November 25th, 2016. There were multipart videos uploaded the the official channel of New Kingston for this expedition. The national anthem was also uploaded to the channel on November 27th, 2016. The anthem was heavily criticized for the anthem's song being the exact same song as Australia's. On December 8th, 2016, the first war was declared in New Kingston's history, due to a physical altercation between the leader of the Assault Nation and the president of New Kingston. Clipperton Island was also officially recognized as part of New Kingston on this day. War with the Assault Nation quickly ended after about 24 hours. War was also "declared" on the 27th of December 2016, though it was more of a dispute on whether New Kingston was a legitimate nation, not a war. On January 2nd, 2017, the government and districts/states were being laid out, with the micronation expanding it's territory by a significant amount. 60 states were created based on this large expansion, with only 4 out of the 60 being on land, the rest being islands. Luxhagen by this point was still not created, but in it's place, Sun City was made. Some of the most significant places in New Kingston were added to the nation, including Onekotan Island, Urup, and Shimushir. On the same day, a military base was being created in the Ashland Mountains. On July 12th, 2017, Bennett Zhang and Adam Snebold parted ways, with Bennett creating Madasola, a short-lived country. War was declared the same day. There is very little information on the war. A month later, a mining industry was created in New Kingston as well as Onekotan being incorporated as Onekotan City, as well as roads being shown the next day. Dirt Valley was a major city created right next to Sun City, and was known as one of the most frequently visited areas. On August 17th, 2017, war was declared on Christia, a micronation located in Hungary. North Dutch Korea originally declared the war, so both New Kingston and North Dutch Korea teamed up to defeat Christia. There isn't much information on why the war was started, besides North Dutch Korea claiming that "there were disputes and fights" between the two nations. It is unknown when the war ended. OToC, a major alliance created by New Kingston/Astain. On August 31st, 2017, it was confirmed that New Kingston was renamed to "Kingdom of Astain". There were some reports of war during most of September 2017 with North Dutch Korea, due to a falling out over realizing that the NDK was a communist nation with policies that did not align with Astain's, but wasn't official until September 30th, 2017. This was a major war, also known as a Micronational World war. It was unknown how it was settled. By the end of 2017, OToC was becoming a major alliance, with almost a dozen nations joining. Between 2017 and most of 2018, Astain was mostly in peace, though there was plenty of unknown drama on Google+ with a massive micronational community. On August 24th, 2018, war was declared on the Pablo-Mexican Empire due to threats. There were disputes in late 2018 and in later years between Delphia and Astain that got out of control, but as of now, it's too complicated to find out what exactly happened between the two nations. There was a fire in late 2018 in the capital. Sometime in 2018, Astain became a Republic. Astain dissolved sometime in late 2019-early 2020. In an odd way, Astain lived on after being defunct. Delphia and some other unknown nations created a new Astain, which had it's own disputes. As of now, it's unknown exactly what occurred, but its possible this new Astain was active until late 2022.
