The President of the Republic of Luxe, in the Luxo political system, is the head of the Luxe State, representative of national unity. The President of the Republic is He carries out a surveillance and coordination function, according to the rules established by the Constitution of Luxe, of which he is guarantor.

The role

The President of the Republic is a constitutional body. He is elected by the citizens in a public session every five years. The Constitution establishes that anyone with Luxe citizenship who has reached 18 years of age and enjoys civil and political rights can be elected president.

There is not an official residence of the President of the Republic.

Since 2016, the highest office in the state has been held by Luca Mirante, president ad interim since 2021.

Duration and expiry

The mandate lasts five years starting from the date of the oath. The provision of a five-year term prevents a president from being re-elected by the same Chambers, which have a year mandate, and helps to free him from excessive political ties with the body that votes for him. The Luxe Constitution does not provide for a limit on the number of mandates for the office of President of the Republic. In addition to the natural expiry of seven years, the mandate can be interrupted for:

  • voluntary resignation;
  • death;
  • permanent impediment due to serious illnesses;
  • dismissal, in the case of a guilty verdict on the indictment for crimes of high treason and attack on the Constitution (art. 90);

forfeiture, due to the failure to meet one of the eligibility requirements. The powers of the president are extended if the chambers are dissolved or there are less than three months left before their dissolution; are extended until the election which must take place within fifteen days of the establishment of the new Chambers.[3]

The exercise of courtesy resignation is usual, i.e. the practice whereby the outgoing president, following the election of his successor, signs his resignation a few days before the natural expiry of the mandate, so as to facilitate the succession.

Defence

Given his importance, the president is protected by a specific defense force: the Presidential Guard of Luxe, which is subordinated exclusively to the presidency of the republic.
