The Parliamentary Republic of Amicatierra, also known by its common name Amicatierra, or by its Amicatierran name Terakore is a micronation created by Prime Minister Aviv Odpam. Odpam originally started the project of forming a micronation as a school project, but later expanded it beyond that. It officially declared independence from the United States on 6 March 2024.

Etymology

Amicatierra is a Latin phrase that, when broken down, translates to “friend land”. Odpam chose the name as the goal of Amicatierra was to promote culture and knowledge, and help people become friends instead of enemies. The name later expanded to the Republic of Amicatierra, and later its final official name, Parliamentary Republic of Amicatierra.

History

Amicatierra was founded by Odpam as a school project in late February 2024. [1] It soon grew beyond school and while the micronation was advertised on the school’s website, Amicatierra grew an identity beyond the school project it used to be. On 6 March 2024 at 19:30 GMT, Amicatierra officially declared independence via an inauguration ceremony held on Zoom.

After reading about different passports, Odpam came upon Article 13 of the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human rights, which states that it is a human right to be able to leave one's country and then re-enter it. He realised that his constitution was "breaking human rights", so he chose to pass the first constitutional amendment, declaring the citizen radius law void and extending the radius for a flag to 10 metres to compensate. [2] Additionally, since planting a flag may not always be the most convenient option, the amendment also states that the Parliament may also record and designate territory as Amicatierran and on 31 March all the oceans were designated as Amicatierran territory. Also, the amendment finally stated that flags only become the centre of the territory once they are officially designated as such. (This was to avoid border disputes with other micronations).

On 7 Apr 2024, Amicatierra layed claim to a small region known as pocket 2 that neither Croatia nor Serbia claim and multiplied Amicatierra's area by over 500. This claim took advantage of the Croatia-Serbia border dispute, since Croatia claims the historical Danube as the boundary between it and Serbia, while Serbia claims the current Danube; leading to a series of four pockets that are not claimed by either country.

Politics and government

Amicatierra is a parliamentary republic. The nation is governed by a parliament made up of no less than three people. One of them is prime minister. Parliamentary elections are held every March 1, where the members of parliament are elected by citizens. Additionally, Prime minister elections are held the next day by the newly elected parliament. The Prime Minister is also a member of parliament. Each member of parliament, as well as the Prime Minister, serves a term of one year, between elections.

Prime Minister

The Prime Minister governs the functions of the parliament. They organise parliamentary meetings and run them as needed. They also can serve as a normal member of parliament. In case of a tie in parliamentary voting, they get a second vote. They also govern actions outside legislative and judicial branches, including military and funding.

Parliament

The parliament makes laws by discussion and vote. Also, it acts as a judicial and executive system as well.

Judicial system

Geography and climate

Amicatierra claims a 10-metre boundary around each Amicatierran flag (about 314 square metres per flag).[3] As of 27 March 2024, there are only two flags in existence. The flag is available on the micronation’s website and Odpam encourages citizens to plant as many flags as they can to eventually create a somewhat permanent territory. Because of this, Amicatierran flags taken aboard a boat can help avoid the legal loophole of there being no laws or law enforcement in the sea. Also, a small part of Amicatierra located in the Croatia-Serbia border dispube is inside the Danube river and has a coastline of about 41 m.

By the Köppen climate classification, Amicatierra's Danube territory is a humid subtropical climate.

Economy

Amicatierra has two currencies; the Euro and the Amicatierran er. The latter is backed by a 500-sheet box of Hammermill Paper on Amazon's price listing, equating it to 9.67 USD. Amicatierra has no exports or government services; imports from the US include television and Wi-Fi service, and as such, citizens still have to pay tax or "foreign aid".

Culture

Amicatierra’s culture is mainly based on uniformity and academia/knowledge. This is why the time zone is GMT even though Odpam presently resides in California, USA.

National holidays

There are three national holidays, described in the table below.

National holidays
Date Name Alternate Name Description
1 January (2 Mun'ka) New Years' Day N/A The start of the Gregorian Calendar
6 March (1 Muna) Independence Day Amicatierra Day The date Amicatierra declared independence in 2024.
26 June (23 Munee) UN Day World citizenship day The day the United Nations charter was signed in 1945, starting a post-war era of peace and unity among nations and starting the concept of a world megacountry.

Languages

The original national languages (English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Hebrew, Swahili, and Toki Pona) were chosen because they were either lingua francas or extremely easy to learn. English is a European lingua franca, Spanish is a Latino lingua franca, French and Swahili are African lingua francas, Arabic and Hebrew are Middle Eastern lingua francas, and Toki Pona is simple to learn at only 120 words (thus possibly being a lingua franca for the rest of the world). Toki Pona is the only official language that was not originally designated by the constitution; rather it was passed as a bill. Amicatierra created its own Amicatierran language on 7 April 2024, and then limited the national languages to English, Hebrew (because those are the Prime Minister's native languages), Amicatierran, Toki Pona, and Spanish. [4]

Amicatierran language

On 7 Apr 2024, Amicatierra unveiled a new national language, Amicatierran, which was immediately signed into law. On 21 Apr an update containing colours, animals, question words, food, directions, two new letters in the alphabet, and other miscellaneous words was also posted on the website. Amicatierran aims to be like Toki Pona by using context and descriptive words rather than a huge corpus of thousands of words making it difficult to learn.

Calendar

The Amicatierran calendar has 365 days (or 366 during a leap, as it aligns with the Gregorian calendar). There are 12 30-day months and one 5-day month. [5]

National symbols

Its flag contains three vertical stripes that are, from left to right, coloured burgundy/purple, white, and bright orange. In the middle of the white stripe is a blue circle. The stripes represent knowledge, peace, and friendship, and the blue circle represents the cycle of the world as well as Earth itself. The coat of arms contains an owl and a book with “Amicatierra” printed above in Bondoni 72 Smallcaps font, in the national colours, also to symbolise knowledge.
