The Parliament of the Kingdom of Veridiania is the unicameral legislature of Veridiania, consisting of the Sovereign (King-in-Parliament) and the House of Representatives. Established in 2024, the Parliament is a key institution in the governance of Veridiania. It meets in Brightstone, the capital of the kingdom.
The House of Representatives consists of 32 Members of Parliament (MPs). MPs are elected using a first-past-the-post electoral system, where candidates compete in single-member constituencies. While elections can be called early, Parliament is generally dissolved and goes up for reelection every three years.
Parliament is supreme over all other government institutions. The legislative and executive branches are closely linked, with the Veridiania Government comprising a Prime Minister (head of government) and other ministers, who are always selected from and accountable to the House of Representatives.
The monarch (currently the King of Veridiania) plays a ceremonial role in the legislative process, granting Royal Assent to bills passed by the House, which is necessary for them to become law. The King also formally summons and dissolves Parliament, initiating the process for general elections.
