National Army of Kalia (NAK) (Estonian: Kalja Rahvavägi ), sometimes referred to as the Peoples Force of Kalia or the Peoples Army of Kalia is the official and unified defense force of Kalia. The National Army of Kalia consists the Kalian land forces, the Kalian navy and the home guard. The National Army's goal is to defend Kalia Republic's internal security and protect the country against any military threat

History

The Kalian National Army, then known as the Kalian Defensive Force was founded upon the ratification of the constitution of Kalia on 2 May 2022. The army was poorly equipped and organized as no real command chain was established. The army also consisted of only three people and the equipment consisted of sticks and rocks. The Kalian navy had and still has no equipment at all. A wooden boat was promised to be constructed by the fall of the same year, but the plan was later abandoned.

Two days later after the Hõbekuuse submitted to Kalia, the Kalian army saw small reformation efforts, as the chain of command was created and new equipment including bikes, wooden spears and airsoft was added to the stockpile. In the following 3-4 months the army grew in numbers, reaching four active duty soldiers and one reserve.

Since mid fall of 2022 the NAK was now invested in almost at all. The equipment has remained the same, though the numbers have grown. The Kalian navy will also receive it's first boat in 2023, used to sail to the Kumbli island.

Structure

In peacetime, the main tasks of NAK are to monitor and maintain control over territorial borders, maintain combat readiness and participate in BU-led micronational operations.

In crises, the main tasks of NAK are to increase the readiness levels of units as required, prepare for transition to wartime structure and begin mobilization as ordered, prepare for assistance from and reception of friendly forces.

In wartime the main tasks of NAK are to defend the territorial integrity of the state and/or prepare for a counter offensive, oversee the mobilization and ensure the civilian population's safety.

Leadership

The highest leader of the national army is the state elder of the republic advised in national defence matters by the Kalian defense minister and the KVSA composed of mainly the Council of Ministers. Executive power in the leadership of the national defence is executed by the Government of the Republic. On the frontline, the highest command shifts to the commander of the NAK, with the head of state and the defense minister forced to obey the commands given by the commander.

Land forces

The Kalian Land Forces is the main arm of the national army. The size of the military formation in peacetime is about 3 men. The land forces consists of one infantry and one bicycle battalion. The Land Force development priorities are the capability to participate in missions outside the national territory and the capability to perform operations to protect the territory of Kalia.

Infantry Battalion

The main fighting unit of the land forces is the 1st Infantry Battalion, consisting of 0-1 men in peacetime and 3-4 men in a war time. The battalion is mainly equipped with wooden spears and airsoft. During peace time, the battalion is mainly out of service and cooperates with the bicycle battalion on their duties. During war time, the battalion is used as the main fighting unit in the land forces, participating in all kinds of battles.

Bicycle Battalion

The Bicycle Battalion is mainly used as a recon unit to patrol, spy on the enemy and gain intel on the enemy's positions. The Bicycle Battalion is the only battalion in the NAK which remains the same size considering personnel during both peace time and war time, consisting of 3 men. The battalion's duties during peace time are to fight terrorism and protect Kalia against any internal threats, such as riots and violent demonstrations. At war, aside from being a recon unit, the battalion is also used as a unit that could provide swift attacks and is used depending on the terrain. On terrains which a bicycle cannot operate on, the battalion is used as a regular infantry force.

Navy

The Kalian Navy is responsible for all naval operations and protecting of the territorial waters of Kalia. The main functions of the naval force are the preparation and organisation of the defence of the territorial waters and coastal line and ensuring the maritime security. The navy currently doesn't own any boats and due to Kalia currently saying a landlocked nation, the navy technically exists only in it's name.

KVSA

The KVSA (Kalian Internal Security and Foreign Intelligence Agency) is the main intelligence agency of Kalia. It is used to provide internal security, fight corruption and terrorism, ensure the constitutional order, provide counterintelligence and spy on other countries threatening the security of Kalia. The KVSA currently consists of four members.

Equipment

The NAK is currently equipped with mainly wooden spears, bikes and airsoft guns. Half of the NAK lacks proper equipment, as Kalia is currently threatened by no other country and thus lacks the need of modern equipment. In case of a war in the future, Kalia has began gathering money from taxes for the purchase of proper equipment in the future.

Personnel

The NAK consist of regular military units totaling 7 people, with reserves and the home defense included. Every citizen of Kalia is included in the defense of the country, which allows the country's manpower to stay relatively high. This fact also allows the army to grow, as new territory and new people are incorporated into the country.
