This article is about the history of Juniperia, for the nation itself, please see Kingdom of Juniperia

The Kingdom of Juniperia has undergone several stages of its sovereignty, throughout them, it has switched forms of government many times. The following article is about the history of Juniperia.

Pre Micronational

Remnants of early humans are said to have been found up to 130,000 years ago in the approximate area of Juniperia[1]. But much sooner, the area was inhabited by hunter-gatherers belonging to the Chumash, Kumeyaay, Nisenan, Maidu, Miwok, Modoc, Mohave, Ohlone, Pomo, Serrano, Shasta, Tataviam, Tongva, Wintu, Yurok, and Yokut tribes. Later, Aztec merchants made contact with some of the tribes and the culture began to spread, by the time Christopher CColumbus arrived, many tribes in the area used Aztec farming methods and spoke a language that was similar to the Aztec one.

Junipero Serra.

By late 17th and early 18th centuries, the Spanish crown under the Viceroyalty of New Spain was intending on conquering present-day California, this expedition would be led by Gaspar de Portola, future governor of California under Spain. He was joined by Junipero Serra, a Franciscan monk who was sent to Mexico City to work with the native peoples there. Gaspar and Serra reached Baja by June of 1769, and reached what is now Orange County on July 26th. The Diary of the Expedition says,

"We left San Francisco Solano after midday, having taken the precaution to water the animals. We directed our course to the northwest, over mounds of earth, moderately high and passable, until we descended to a very extensive plain, of which the limit could not be discerned by the eye. After three leagues we halted close to a very small watering-place; it was scarcely sufficient for the people. We called it the Aguage del Padre Gómez as it was discovered by this missionary father who was of our company."[2]

After traveling up and down the coast of California, Serra would eventually construct several monasteries now known as the "Serra Missions". During the 1800s, the Spanish King would parcel land to citizens, one of them would be the Sepulveda family, a wealthy rancher family. Later the Irvine family would be given the land. The Irvine Company, which was founded by the Irvine Family still holds most of Irvine today.

Raymond Watson, an Irvine Company employee and former President designed Irvine's layout in the 1950s, and Irvine is marveled for its master-planning.[3]

Micronational

The area began micronationally in the early 2010s, in 2013, Alen of the Canpor group established a 'micro-nation' inspired by Sealand. Nothing is known about these early Micronations other than their name and a few leaders. In 2015, the United Westavian Empire, commonly known as Westavia began.

Westavian and Mogunesian Era

All Micronations of the Juniper-branch can trace their existence to Westavia, often being regarded as the first real Micronational in Orange County, predating Gapla by four years and the Kingdom of Juniperia by 8 years. The first Emperor of Westavia was Shahan II, who was the second cousin of Séan Eunaraine. He is known as án Mágnânimiénné or 'The Magnanimous' for his piety towards his enemies and people. He was a great reformer, centralizing his government and even creating organized ministries.

Shahan faced several adversaries, most notably a revolt of three nobles in 2016 which saw three prominent people in the Empire revolt, Shahan allegedly let them retaining their titles, seeing their cause as "not entirely faulty".

Shahan's reign would end when he moved away in 2017, he was succeeded by Jay II, a much crueler King, described as a ruler with an iron fist. He abolished all of Shahan's policies involving free media and freedom of opposition, and 'enforced' a ban on ìssé majesté. Jay II would silence any noble who opposed him by removing them from power. He reigned without major opposition for nearly one year, until a group of nobles, including Eunarainé revolted against Jay. The revolt succeeded in removing Jay II but failed to establish a centralized state to succeed it, hence, an assortment of smaller states arose. For nearly 3 months, this way continued until Eunarainé's cousin, Arman Jeannienne began a massive operation and successfully unified the states with Séan's help. He would be given the title of High Priest as a prize for helping Arman. Who would rule as Armangus CXLIX, a satirical enumeration hinting claim to the Roman throne.

The Mogunesian Empire continued to thrive under the rule of Armangus, a notable event being the Battle of Settlers, in which the Mogunesians briefly established hold in what is now Orchard Hills. The Mogunesia Empire would though, head into a state of decline after this, as its people became less interested.

Ruisseau and Setara

Main Articles: Kingdom of Setara, Confederation of Ruisseau

Almost a year passed since the Mogunesia downfall, until a new nation in the Altura was founded, Ruisseau. This micronation was the first one in the land to be ruled by Séan, who styled himself Prince Séan Beaharnais II, in reference to the family that did Napoleon's bidding. It was styled mostly after the Confederation of the Rhine, a napoleonic state in Central Europe. The nation was relatively small, as Sean at the time valued quality more than quantity. The nation had a marvelous beauracratic system as well as a proper land system.

Ruisseau came and went, and was succeeded by Setara, a micronation that was a Republic. It was succeeded by the Republic of Juniperia.
