Etymology

Nabia Goddess

Nabia Nation was named after the Goddess Nabia. She was a highly revered deity among the Lusitans tribes before the arrival of the Romans. Her worship spread across much of the Iberian Peninsula, but the exact nature of her divinity remains a mystery to scholars. Her attributes were diverse, Nabia is often associated with rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water. She is also linked to valleys, forests and mountains, suggesting a connection to nature and the fertility of the land. Moreover, she is invoked to ensure good harvests, health and prosperity.

History

In the area where Nabia is located, an archaeological site was discovered in 1994, proving the presence of a prehistoric settlement during the Early Neolithic period, indicating an occupation of the territory dating back about six thousand years. It is assumed that the area was occupied by Lusitanian tribes and later by the Roman Empire. New evidence of subsequent occupation of the territory points to the early 16th century. The construction and settlement of the population in the territory of Nabia, formerly known as Ponte do Caia, was due to the Count of Rio Maior, owner of the lands. This occupation must have been prior to 1879, since there are documents, namely an account book referring to the rental of the lands between 1879 and 1885. In addition to the agricultural activity that took place there, there is speculation about the possibility that the buildings had a religious purpose at some point, since there are unofficial reports of this fact and also from an archaeological and architectural point of view, the evidence points in this direction. The remains of an ancient altar and the configuration of a central courtyard in the form of a cloister indicate a possible religious use of the buildings for a certain period. The images of the lost chapel were taken to Portugal, where they are located in the Hermitage of Our Lady of the Rosary, in the locality of Rosário, in the municipality of Moita.

The Count Sérgio Guardado da Silva and Countess Alexandra Duarte Guardado da Silva were destined to create the Condado of The Nabia Nation. Heirs from the two most prominent clans of the Nabian nation. They took for them selfs the mission was to found the grounds to the creation of the Condado and give to Nabians a country they can call home. Count Sérgio, a visionary, had seen the potential to unify the nation under a single rule—a vision that ultimately led to the creation of Nabia Nation Condado. Countess Alexandra, is equally formidable. Coming from the distinguished Duarte family, known for their diplomatic prowess and deep connections, had not just been a supportive partner but an active strategist. The charm, virtud and intellect of the counts won them the favor of many influential figures, enabling the couple to forge important alliances. Together, Sérgio and Alexandra embarked on an ambitious campaign to establish the Nabia Condado. After almost thirty years, their efforts culminated in 2022, with the independence from Portugal and the creation of Condado of Nabia Nation, granting Sérgio the title of Count and Alexandra the title of Countess. Under their rule, Nabia quickly became a micronation of happy people, where all the human and natural values are respected and cultivated, in obedience to the Gods will.
