The sole city and capital of the micro-nation, Franzelat, serves as the cultural and administrative center. Gerland was established as a haven for creative individuals to thrive in a society free from corruption and injustice. Etymology

The name Gerland was coined in winter on the eve of 2021 by Tomython Rodler 1. The name Gerland is very similar to the word garland, and the name of the micronation is like a small pun, which can be translated as cold earth, or garland land.

History

Gerland was founded on August 27, 2020, by Tomython Rodler I, with the aim of creating a state where creative individuals could thrive in a corruption-free and just society.

Inspired by Aristotle's concept of Politics, Tomython developed a hybrid governance model combining meritocracy with an aristocratic republic, retaining the monarch as a symbol of stability. The highest positions are held by those who have demonstrated their abilities and dedication to the common good.

The economic system relies on the currency IntCoin, intended as the foundation for financial stability. Although its value is currently low, it is a step toward economic independence.

Gerland is known for its commitment to creativity and freedom of expression. Located in southeast Europe, its territory of just under 25 acres serves as a creative haven. The country embodies the ideal of justice and creative freedom, despite facing various challenges.

Politics and government

Gerland is a unitary micro-nation with a single city and capital, Franzelat. Its governance closely resembles the Roman Republic as described by Aristotle in Athenian Politics, integrating elements from the second part of the same work. In addition to this classical framework, Gerland incorporates meritocracy and monarchy, creating a unique political system that blends historical models with modern principles.

Archon

The Archon is the highest position in the state, he is the representative of all chambers and councils and is able to summon them at any time. Able to make any decisions within the framework of the law, or as long as most magistrates allow. The position of the archon is similar to the monarch, but the only difference is that it is not inherited, if the magistrates allow it, then it is possible, and the magistrates can remove the archon from office, but only if all chambers and councils approve it.

Senate

The senator is able to convene a grand council to solve serious problems of the state. He is a representative of the grand council, and is responsible for it. He is able to make serious decisions for the place of the archon in case of his absence.

Law and order

The order is monitored by the law enforcement agency GSD (Gerland Security Detachment), and the small council is responsible for the judicial system. The Small Council consists of 50 magistrates.

Boule

A council of 500 citizens chosen by lot, responsible for preparing and discussing legislation and overseeing the implementation of decisions made by the Assembly. This could be compared to a ministry handling legislative and administrative functions.

Ekklesia

The Assembly, where all citizens had the right to participate. It made decisions on major state policies and controlled the actions of other government bodies. This is analogous to a ministry responsible for public and political affairs.

Great Council

High officials who managed judicial and religious matters, as well as organized state festivals and rituals. Their functions could be compared to a ministry of justice and a ministry of culture.

Small Council

The judicial bodies that handled legal cases, including criminal and civil disputes. In modern terms, this could be related to a ministry of justice or the judicial system.

Hestia

This role was associated with managing state property and organizing public affairs, including construction and infrastructure. It can be analogous to a ministry of public works and construction.

Philos

This position dealt with financial and economic matters, including the management of state revenues and expenditures. In modern terms, it could be compared to a ministry of finance.

Economy

Gerland uses the IntCoin a currency, which the state itself produces. Was created on June 26, 2024. At the moment, there are 300 million currencies that are stored on the Archon's personal wallet
