The People's Popular Socialist Republic of Bzan (Bzanish: Bzahovu Fuefuud Yetez Puxiqhy), formerly known as the Democratic People's Republic of Bzan and commonly known as Bzan, is a Socialist micronational state originally founded on April 29, 2008 following a revolt against the leaders of the Kingdom of Licentia. Dissolved in May 2008, Bzan was re-established on December 4, 2008 by the Democratic People's of Erusia. Although officially a successor state to the original Bzan, the People's Popular Socialist Republic of Bzan is drastically different to the original Bzanite micronation. Bzan is one of the founding member states of the Union of Socialist Micronational Republics and, as such, has limtied autonomy. It is known with the Union as the Bzanite Socialist Republic.

History

Early History

The Democratic People's Republic of Bzan was officially founded on April 29, 2008 with the signing of the Bzanite Declaration of Independence, following the decision to create the independent state on April 28. Prior to this declaration, Bzan was part of the Kingdom of Licentia. The uprising against the Licentian government was lead by Peter Gaffney and Geraint Rennie, Licentian citizens who were advocates of Democracy and Socialism. At the time of Bzan's declaration of independence, King Colum was on a State visit to the Kingdom of Uantir and unable to directly respond to the issue. This sparked an event termed by the Principality of Cakeland and the Principality of Kaznia (now Cheslovia) as the Bzan War of Independence, though no armed conflict ever took place. Bzan's new leadership immediately set about finding allies should Licentia have sought to challenge their claim to national autonomy and dissolve them back into the Kingdom. The members of the Licentian government acting in the King's stead made no move to recognise, nor condemn, the Bzanite struggle for independence directly.

On May 10, King Colum finally met with Gaffney to discuss the future of the Bzanite and Licentian states. The two nations came to an agreement on May 12 of mutual recognition and cooperation, although the terms of this agreement were later altered to be less oppressive for the Bzanites. The formal treaty was signed on May 18 following the conclusion of all business between the two leaders. At the time however, Bzan was plagued by internal political strife and a breakdown of communication resulted in Gaffney being mistakenly informed that Geraint Rennie was seeking to seize power and rejoin with Licentia in exchange for a position of power in the Licentian government. On May 26, believing that the troubles in Bzan had run too deeply to deal with, Gaffney announced the dissolution of the State and restored the land to Licentian rule.

International Community of Bzanites

During the interim period between the collapse of the Democratic People's Republic and the current Bzanite state, an international organisation for former citizens of Bzan - known as the International Community of Bzanites - was founded to protect the interests of the Bzanite people and micronational Socialists on the whole. The Community was not exceptionally active but played a major part in the June Revolution in the Kingdom of Licentia, as well as in the founding of the Democratic People's Republic of Erusia. Robert Lethler served as the last Chairperson of the Community, succeeding Peter Gaffney.

Refounding

Robert Lethler, the standing Supreme People's Commissioner in Erusia, resolved that the issues presented by micronational Socialism would make it difficult for the Communist State to find other Socialist nations. In late November to early December he met with Peter Gaffney and Michelle Yui to discuss the possibility of re-creating Bzan as a subordinate state to Erusia. Gaffney was initially sceptical of the idea but agreed in early December to lead a second Bzanite state. It was decided that Bzan would serve largely as a simulated micronation, though it would maintain itself as a serious state - this move was largely made because Gaffney had no desire to lead an effective micronation and was concerned about possible conflict between Erusia and Bzan.

Politics and Government

Unlike the original Bzanite state which was a multi-party democracy in the same style as the current Democratic People's Republic of Erusia, modern Bzan is a single-party state in which the Bzanite National Democratic Communist Party is synomynous with all political and government systems of the Republic. As a largely simulated micronational state, many aspects of the Bzanite government are partially or completed simulated. The article Politics and Government of Bzan documents these. The current President of Bzan is Peter Gaffney.
