The Democratic State of Irvington Elections of 2021 were held on July 15, 2021, and involved elections to the offices of President, Vice President, and Parliment. Centrist incumbent James Mitchell was inelligible to run for re-election. The results saw the workers party losing one seat in parliment, which was gained by the centrists, and Darien Unionist Party gaining one seat from the centrists, while Maya Jefferson was narrowly elected president.

Issues and Campaign

Since President Mitchell was ilelligible to run for re-election, his Vice President, Owen Perry, sought the office of President, and was nominated by the Centrist party. Maya Jefferson, meanwhile, was nominated by the workers party to seek the office. The centrists ran on national security, arguing that the WP was too radical to be trusted. Meanwhile, the Worker's Party ran on a independence referendum for the Darien Territories in lieu of the Darien Emergency and the use of government funds on making the state for self sustained. When during a debate, Perry announced his support for a drawdown of Irvington National Army forces to zero (to be replaced entirely by the National Police), parlimentary candidate Troy Tyler also entered the race as an independent. Throughout the race, Perry was expected to win in East Irvington and the Capital District, while Jefferson was favored in South Irvington and West Irvington. Darien, meanwhile, was viewed as a tossup, with Tyler and Perry both seeming strong in the area.

Polling

In early polls taken in March 2021, Perry led Jefferson 62% to to 27%, with the remainder undecided. In May, Perry led Jefferson 58% to 35%, with the remainder undecided. After Tyler entered the race however, things began to change. Polls taken in June had Perry leading Jefferson 50% to 42%, with Tyler at 8%. Entrance Polls had Jefferson at 42%, Perry at 38%, and Tyler at 19%.

Aftermath

Immediately as entrance polls closed, both the Centrist's and Tyler campaigns conceded defeat in the Presidential Race. However, the Centrists maintained their parliamentary supermajority, which meant that Jefferson's initiatives largely fell on deaf ears. Immediately after the results broke, Owen Perry stated he would not seek office in 2023, and continue to serve in parliament. However, this did not occur, as Perry ran in the Democratic State of Irvington 2022 Elections, although he was defeated by Jefferson a second time.
