The Democratic State of Irvington 2022 Elections were held on July 15, 2022, and involved elections to the office of President, Vice President, and Parliament. The results saw the Worker's Party gain a seat in parliament, causing the Centrists to lose their majority in Parliament. Meanwhile, President Jefferson was narrowly re-elected over a divided field.

Issues and Campaign

Despite his pledge not to do so, Former Vice President Owen Perry decided to make a second run for president. However, by a vote of 2-1-1 of the Party's Executive Committee, Beau Callahan, the DSI Supreme Justice was instead nominated by the Centrist party. Claiming foul play due to the fact that MP Will Callahan cast the deciding vote for his brother, Perry decided to form the Moderate Party and run on its ballot line. After collecting the minimum signatures to be on the ballot (5, including at least one MP), Troy Tyler of the newly formed Conservative party decided to run as well, claiming that both the Moderates and Centrists were too weak on defense.

Polling

The one pre-election poll of the race taken was in on June 29, 2021, after Tyler entered the race. It found Jefferson at 45%, Callahan at 20%, Perry at 20%, and Tyler at 15%. An entrance poll taken on Election Day found Jefferson at 37%, Callahan at 34%, Perry at 26%, and Tyler at 11%

Aftermath

After entrance polls closed, the Tyler campaign conceded. However, the Perry and Callahan campaigns refused to concede until the results were actually released. Upon their release at 9PM EST, the Perry campaign conceded defeat. However, the Callahan campaign did not, requesting a recount (which was refused by Supreme Justice Robert Bowman). Upon hearing this news, Callahan vowed to run again in 2023, formally submitting the papers to do so on August the 1st. Meanwhile, Tyler decided not to run again. On August the 2nd, Owen Perry formed an exploratory committee to run, rebranding the Moderate Party into the populist Reform party. The same day, a governing coalition was formed between the Worker's Party and the Reform Party, while the Centrists and Conservatives formed the opposition coalition. However, the coalition fell apart on the vote for ranked-choice voting (which failed 3-2), which meant a Parliamentary snap election was called for March the 15th.
