The Dead Dog War was a confrontation in 1999 between the People's Democratic Republic of Molossia and the United States of America following burial of a dog's corpse in Molossian territory. The term 'war' is used in a rhetorical sense, due to the lack of direct armed conflict. The conflict is best described as an international incident.
The conflict began following the collapse of negotiations between Molossia and the United States, resulting in the deployment of the Molossian Army to the Molossian frontier.
After a two-week siege, the United States capitulated, relocating the dog's corpse beyond Molossian borders.
In the years following the conflict, Molossia would fence off its borders following further incursions from the United States.
Course of the war
Burial of the dead dog
On 3 July 1999, a group described as "covert forces from the United States" by Molossia had crossed the border without permission, and buried the corpse of a dog in the sovereign territory of Molossia.
The government of Molossia opened negotiations with the group, which proved unsuccessful as the corpse of the dog was not removed. In response to the collapse of negotiations, the Molossian Army was deployed to the Molossian frontier to deal with what Molossia called an "underhanded threat to our sovereignty".
Siege
The thirteen year old Mark Baugh was deployed as a secret weapon of the Molossian Army, who would combat the United States through ceaseless chatter.
A two week siege would ensue, wherein the hyperactive Baugh would force the capitulation of the United States.
The significantly degraded dog corpse was removed from Molossia and reburied in its current location in the United States.
Aftermath
In the period following the war, Molossia would receive reparations in the form of a wooden waste container. A monument was erected to stand as a testament to the horrors of the war and the inhumanity of man.
Molossian borders would remain unsecure until the early 2000s, when a border fence was erected in response to the presence of notorious drug dealers adjacent to the nation.
