History
In 2012, the Italian administration, seeking to expand its economic influence in the region, occupied de facto the small city of Luxe. This occupation had a significant impact on the local economy, as Italians began to utilize Luxe as a warehouse for their goods. The Luxe Cresce movement, a group of local activists who opposed the occupation, responded by placing nationalist signs throughout the town. In a symbolic act of defiance, they also occupied and liberated a wardrobe that the Italians had been using to store documents. The Italian non official occupation of Luxe sparked a series of negotiations between the two parties. After months of discussions, a compromise was finally reached in 2013. Italan citizens agreed to withdraw from Luxe and refrain from further violations of its sovereignty, provided that Luxe would use the occupied space exclusively for instructional purposes. This eventual compromise allowed Luxe to maintain its autonomy while also benefiting from Italy's economic influence. The Luxe Cresce movement's role in resisting the occupation and achieving this compromise underscores the importance of local activism in protecting a community's rights and interests.
