Saen, officially the Commonwealth of Saen,[a] previously known as the Kingdom of Saen, is a micronation located in the Philippines. After the Treaty of Metro Azuria, the government transitioned from a parliamentary monarchy into an elective constitutional monarchy, with the President of Balzi serving as the monarch of Saen. Currently, Salgado-Victa, the President of Balzi, holds the title of monarch. The governance of Saen is led by the Governor General, Jay Sean Montano, also known as Daichy, and the Prime Minister, Felix Tomado. The capital city is Metro Azuria, while Serentidae remains the largest city. Saen is recognized for its cultural identity, which includes its own national language, Lumo, as well as the use of English, Spanish, and Filipino as official languages. Additionally, Saen is a member of the Great Leguean Sphere Organization.
The Commonwealth of Saen is a self-proclaimed micronation operating with its own government, culture, and laws, centered in the Manila area. Its governance structure is characterized by a balance of royal authority and democratic processes. Following the Treaty of Metro Azuria, the monarchy became elective, with the President of Balzi serving as the constitutional monarch. Although the monarch’s role remains symbolic in unifying the nation, real governance is handled by elected officials, particularly the Prime Minister, who oversees the day-to-day administration.
Etymology
The name Saen is derived from the reverse spelling of the name of the first king, Jay Sean Montano, known as Daichy. Originally known as the Kingdom of Saen, the title shifted to the Commonwealth of Saen after the nation adopted the President of Balzi as its monarch.
History
The origins of Saen lie in its establishment as a self-declared kingdom by Jay Sean Montano. Under his leadership, Saen began as a parliamentary monarchy, blending the symbolic function of the monarch with democratic governance. Over time, the nation developed its own culture, language, and identity while also striving to interact with other micronations.
The pivotal moment in Saen’s history came with the Treaty of Metro Azuria, which formalized Saen’s transition into an elective constitutional monarchy. By adopting the President of Balzi as its monarch, Saen strengthened its ties with the micronational community of Balzi and altered its governance structure. Since the treaty, Saen’s government operates under royal decrees until the creation of a formal constitution, which is currently being drafted by the Senate of Balzi.
Government and Politics
The Commonwealth of Saen operates under an elective constitutional monarchy where the President of Balzi serves as the monarch, representing national unity. The monarch’s powers are largely symbolic, while real political authority lies with the Governor General (Jay Sean Montano) and the Prime Minister (Felix Tomado). The Governor General represents the monarchy domestically and internationally, while the Prime Minister leads the executive branch and oversees governmental operations.
Following the Treaty of Metro Azuria, governance has been maintained through royal decrees until a formal constitution, which is being drafted by the Senate of Balzi, is finalized. In the meantime, the Commonwealth operates under a system where laws are enacted by royal decrees, balancing royal authority with democratic oversight.
Culture
Saen boasts a rich and distinct cultural identity, with its own national language, Lumo, serving as a symbol of its heritage. English, Spanish, and Filipino are also recognized as official languages, reflecting the multicultural influences on Saenese society.
Saen’s cultural symbols include the phoenix, representing national unity, resilience, and rebirth. The nation takes pride in its cultural uniqueness, actively fostering its traditions while seeking recognition and collaboration with other micronations. Saen also places a high emphasis on maintaining a balance between its historical monarchy and modern democratic principles, aiming to build a progressive and united community.
