Blood and Battle is the second novel written in Enduring Symphony, a series of sci-fi/fantasy novels written by Charles Madgett. It was published on 4 May 2023. The novel goes over the aftermath of Raizo becoming King of Macha, and follows many plotlines with many different perspectives. The overarching story is one of political strife and intergalactic conflict as a whole, before eventually spilling out into an intergalactic war.
Plots
There are multiple plotlines in Blood and Battle, with many different 'main characters.' The main plotline is that of Macha's, where the elections for Parliament are occurring. The elections are headlined by Aire Sinx - a woman who ran under the Democratic Party of Macha - and Dr. Lut Potfrz, a radical fascist. While the elections happen in Macha, another plotline involving another planet known as Yarv was occurring.
On Yarv, their presidential election was in full swing. However, before their elections, they are attacked by terrorists. Initially presumed to be domestic, Yarvan intel then suggests that the attackers were from another planet known as Xartha. Xartha does not comment. These attacks then lead to a distrust in the Intergalactic Council, the main intergalactic diplomacy organization.
After the attack, an emergency parliament session to address it is initiated on Macha, where an MP publicly states his support for Potfrz. Finally, on the day of the Machan election, a terrorist attack on polls all around the planet happens. It leaves the Machan people devastated. This leads to a further political divide and eventually riots. Xartha would, again, be implicated. Xartha then makes a statement denying any involvement.
At this point, the political climate of Macha is so bad that a result - any result - will likely lead to civil unrest, as there are already riots in the streets between supporters of candidates for Machan Parliament. The re-election declared Potfrz the winner, who then makes his speech and goes to a Parliament session to try and convince other MPs to elect him as Royal Vizier.
The election on Yarv, however, starts a mass civil war. This civil war is won by a group of authoritarians which then leave the All-Recognition Agreement, an agreement from the Intergalactic Council which ensured that all member planets recognized each other's governments and sovereignty. This then leads to massive tensions and other planets leaving the All-Recognition Agreement.
Following Yarv's actions, an intergalactic war is sparked. The Intergalactic Council is unable to stop it from happening.
