The Blazdonian Electoral Commission (BEC) is an independent federal agency responsible for organizing, conducting, and supervising federal elections, by-elections, and referendums in the Kingdom of Blazdonia.

Responsibilities

The BEC has several responsibilities, which include:

  • Overseeing federal elections, by-elections, and referendums
  • Keeping electoral rolls up to date
  • Determining electorate borders, apportionments, and redistributions
  • Registering political parties that want to run for office in federal elections
  • Monitoring the operations of political parties, including receiving donations and expenditures returns and publishing the information
  • Serving as an electoral education center, educating individuals on how representatives are chosen and the Blazdonian Constitution is amended via the electoral process (referendums)
  • Impacting voting in the workplace (e.g., votes on industrial action)

Registration of Political Parties

Before a political party may run candidates, get public financing, have party identity on ballot papers, or use above-the-line ticket voting, it must first register with the BEC. Party names must have a maximum of six words, not be vulgar, not match the name of another unrelated party, not be likely to cause confusion with another party, and not contain the terms 'independent' or 'independent party' in all jurisdictions. All Blazdonian jurisdictions also have a minimum membership requirement of five members.

The Blazdonian Electoral Commission is responsible for maintaining electoral rolls for all of Blazdonia under the Joint Roll Arrangements, which includes providing full election results and tracking down voters who did not cast ballots.

Who Must Abide By The BEC?

All Blazdonian citizens who are eligible to vote, political parties, and candidates running for federal office must abide by the Blazdonian Electoral Commission's rules and regulations.
