The Augustanian Democratic Republic is a self-declared nationstate or micronation located in Russia, which is not recognized by any major geopolitical organizations. It was previously the Socialist Republic of Augustan, as well as a province of the Socialist People's Republic of Bryantia, prior to declaring independence on 26 November 2020.

History

Augustan was founded on 9 April 2020 by Gus Rósínśtí. Augustan's first conflict was a civil war, between the Soviets and the Constitutional Monarchists. It started on 21 April 2020, and ended 17 hours later when the Soviets surrendered to the Monarchists. Rósínśtí reformed Augustan to become a socialist republic on 26 May 2020, and it stayed that way until 23 September 2020, when Rósínśtí announced that the nation would become a monarchy as an "experiment". Almost two months later, on 13 November 2020, Augustan became a social democracy.

Bryantian province

On 22 November 2020, Chairman Gus Rósínśtí and Bryantian Premier Roy Jackson agreed to have Augustan become a province of the Socialist People's Republic of Bryantia. Augustan, at that point, was known as the "People's Province of Augustan". On 26 November 2020, Augustan declared independence, citing Premier Jackson's alleged authoritarianism, as he had changed the constitution without the consent of the Bryantian Supreme Soviet.

Government

Augustan is a federal semi-democracy with a parliamentary system. The national government consists of the National Duma (which contains both the executive and legislative powers), and the Judicial Council (which contains the judicial powers).

National Duma

The National Duma of Augustan is the legislature of the Augustanian Democratic Republic. It consists of eight members, known as "Deputies", who are elected to four month terms (though they can be subject to a recall vote by petition at any time). The leader of the largest party or coalition in the National Duma is Chairman of the National Duma, who is the head of state and government of Augustan. The chairman appoints four members of the National Duma to serve as Ministers in the Cabinet of Augustan. The ministerial positions are the Minister of Defense and Foreign Affairs; the Minister of Commerce; the Minister of the Interior, Energy, and the Environment; and the Minister of Education and Culture, each of whom oversee a Ministry of the same name.

Elections

Elections for the National Duma are held using mixed-member proportional representation. Each of the four oblasts has one directly elected member of the National Duma, and the other

Referenda on legislation

Legislation passed by the National Duma must pass a national referendum in order to be enacted into law. Referenda are normally held approximately one week after the legislation passes the National Duma.

Judicial Council

The Judicial Council is the judiciary of Augustan. It consists of three members (known as "Jurists"), one of whom is appointed by the chairman; one of whom is elected by the people of Augustan; and one of whom is elected by governors of the oblasts. Jurists serve renewable terms of three years, but can be subject to a recall vote by a petition.

Regional governments

Augustan is divided into subdivions, known as Oblasts. The four current oblasts are Bryansk, Koshka. Mogeliv, and Vitebsk. Each oblast is led by a directly elected governor, and governed through direct public votes on legislation proposed by governors.
