Assembly of State (Portucale)
The Assembly of State is the lower house of the Government of Portucale. It is located in the country's capital, Portus Cale. All elected members are known as Members of Parliament. MPs are elected to represent a constituency.

History
The Assembly of the Republic was founded on the 3rd of December 2021 by the first President, Colin of Portucale.
Role
Relationship with the Government
The Assembly doesn't formally elect the Prime Minister but the Prime Minister is answerable to the Assembly so should maintain support.
Whenever the Office of Prime Minister is vacant the Monarch appoints typically appoints the person who is likely to command or does command the most support.
When a Government has lost the confidence of the Assembly the Prime Minister typically steps down making way for another MP who can command confidence.
Legislative Functions
The Assembly create, propose and debate laws and Acts of Parliament. Once they have been approved by the Assembly they can be sent to the Council of State for approval then the monarch, or straight to the monarch for Royal Ascent.
Members and Elections
Every constituency in the nation is represented by a single Member of Parliament. Elections typically happen once every 5 years from the previous.
Qualifications
There are numerous qualifications that apply to Members of Parliament. All MPs and Candidates must typically be aged at least 18 and must be a citizen of the Portucale Republic.
Officers
At the start of each term the Assembly may choose to elect or re-elect a Speaker of the Assembly. A Speaker Elect cannot take office until he or she has been approved by the President. The Speaker is assisted by up to three Deputy Speakers.
Procedures
The Assembly meet in the Government Building in Portus Cale.
Members of the Government occupy the benches on the Speaker's right, whilst members of the Opposition occupy the benches on the Speaker's left. The President, Prime Minister and the Government Ministers, as well as the Leader of the Opposition and the Shadow Cabinet sit on the front rows, and are known as frontbenchers. Other members of parliament are known as backbenchers.
Speeches addressed to the Speaker using the words "Mr Speaker", "Madam Speaker", "Mr Deputy Speaker", or "Madam Deputy Speaker". Only the presiding officer may be directly addressed in debate; other members must be referred to in the third person. Traditionally, members do not refer to each other by name, but by constituency, using forms such as "The Honourable Member for [constituency]", or "The Right Honourable Member for [constituency]". The addressing vary depending on the individual's posting.
