The 2024 Pacifican general election is the first annual general election which will take place in the Empire of Pacifico. The election will decide the third Prime Minister of Pacifico and the composition of the House of Commons, the lower house of the Parliament of Pacifico. All candidates will be elected on a non-partisan basis.

Background

The 2024 general election was prompted by the third amendment to the Constitution of Pacifico, which details the electoral process. Shortly after, the third amendment was repealed and was replaced with the fourth amendment.

Electoral system

The members of Parliament are elected from two multi-member constituencies using plurality block voting, a version of block voting; each voter may cast as many votes as the number of seats to be filled.[1] The candidates with the most votes are elected.

The highest-performing candidate from each region qualifies as a nominee for a Prime Ministerial election. Should a nominee withdraw, the runner-up from their respective region assumes their place. The candidate securing second place in the national election is designated as the Deputy Prime Minister. This structure is facilitated by Pacifico's status as a nonpartisan democracy.

The election is conducted annually during the second week of January, with results announced within three days. The electoral process employs the First Past the Post system to determine the winner. In the rare event of a tie, the Emperor resolves the outcome through a coin toss.[2][3]
