Government of Kanindé | Foreign relations of the Empire of Kanindé |
At the end of December 2023 and January 2024, a political crisis took place between the monarch Felipe I and politicians from Kanindé. Emperor Felipe I, observing the entire situation, immediately began a self-coup, dissolving the Empire, transforming it into a Provisional Government with an republican style, dissolving Parliament and the Constitution and instituting a system of rule by decree. The Crisis ended when the coup plotters (names withheld to avoid problems outside of micronationalism) were expelled from Kanindé groups, banned from the networks and lost access to the accounts of Government bodies. The Republican style was soon abolished and the provisional government disbanded by Felipe and the committee at the ministerial meeting on February 4th. The decision was to reform the Kingdom of Kanindé and keeping the previous monarchy but with small reforms having three royal territories, Kanindé, Riverra and Montveld, also created by Felipe I of Kanindé in the area claimed by the Kingdom.
Felipe I created the Kanindé micronation on September 25, 2022 after several negotiations, including his former prime minister Gustavo da Silva Matos. The Constitution of the Empire of Kanindé made it clear that the state would shape itself into a constitutional monarchy, however, this system never worked properly as the National Assembly never reached a sufficient quorum.
On January 20, 2024, members of the Prime Minister's Office (who were acting without the knowledge of the former prime minister, who was inactive) started fights within the main government groups (private) on Kanindé's Whatsapp. The Emperor asked them both to calm down but to no avail. The situation began to escalate on the same day when some civilians and members of the Kanindé government suggested deposing Felipe I and installing one of their own as monarch of Kanindé. After that, some emails with failed login attempts on all Kanindé Government accounts were detected, according to the emperor himself.
Special regime
The Response of the Ruler of Kanindé was dramatic. On January 20, 2024, Felipe appeared in a statement to the nation and foreigners on radio declaring that he took "exceptional measures" to control the crisis that was taking over the micronation behind the scenes. All points cited in this speech except the fifth were revoked by King Felipe I on February 4th during the reorganization for a United Kingdom.
Dear fellow citizens, I address you in one of the most difficult and responsible moments, on the verge of one last important event. In recent days, Kanindé has been experiencing a serious government crisis.
As the leader of a micronation with a unique identity, I immediately noticed several anomalies and felt the responsibility to take exceptional action to seek to accelerate the process of micronational stabilization by deciding to take the following measures:
First - Restructure the Micronation by transitioning from a Constitutional Monarchy to a Semi-presidential Federal Republic by revoking the current constitution until the approval of another constitution.
Second - Dissolve the National Congress and its chambers so that another effective structure can be shaped through a national plebiscite. Third - Immediately dismiss all Federal Government officials, including the Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Director of the IAA Foreign Affairs Agency.
Fourth - Emperor Felipe I will assume the position of President of the Kanindeense Federation until the next election which must be held no later than 10 pm where he will compete.
Fifth - Mr. Lorran Costa Mendes is appointed to the position of Prime Minister of the Kanindeense Federation.
These measures will come into force immediately so that Kanindé can emerge from this serious crisis that has hit us.
Post-Turmoil and consolidation of power
Immediate aftermath
That same day, immediately after posting the statement on Instagram and Twitter, elections for President of the Transitional Committee were called with the only candidate being Mr. Luís Felipe (Felipe I), the elections lasted until 10 pm (Brasilia time) and the votes are being investigated.
Opinions on the end of the monarchy
The majority of Kanindeans did not care about the end of the monarchy, only looking at the future of the micronation project. the Leader of Kanindé found it necessary to transition to the republican regime to highlight that he was elected by popular vote and that Kanindé will remain independent, not joining confederations, empires or kingdoms, this is after some of those who were planning this coup consider joining a kingdom not mentioned by them (fearing reprisals, probably.)
Return of the monarchy
The idea at first to transition the micronation from a monarchy to a republic, but, after the elections that placed the monarch as leader, in this case "president" of the committee, it was decided internally that it was unfeasible and that a remodeling of the monarchy would take place to prevent the micronation became a one man nation. and in this case the Kingdom of Kanindé will be restructured with the articles that provided for a republic being revoked by Felipe and the committee at the ministerial meeting on February 4th. The Kingdom will be constituted under the previous monarchy but with small reforms, the Kingdom will be reformed and will have three royal territories, Kanindé, Riverra and Montveld, also created by Felipe I of Kanindé in the area claimed by the Kingdom.
