The 2022 Snagovian invasion of Dridu, also called the Special Military Operation for the Liberation of Dridu (Romanian: Operațiunea Specială Militară pentru Dezrobirea Dridului) in Snagov, was a military invasion of the territory of Dridu-Snagov. It began on 18 October 2022, initiated by the Snagovian People's Army and the Snagovian National Unity, with the goal of temporarily occupying the land and eventually establishing the Protectorate of Dridu.

Prelude

The President of Snagov announcing the military operation

Since the state's foundation, the Snagovian People's Republic has often sent Snagovian representatives to the village of Dridu-Snagov (now the Protectorate of Dridu). The goal of these representatives was to promote Snagovian identity in the area. Usually, the group would consist of 2 to 4 Snagovian government officials. On 17 October, the bi-monthly visit by 2 Snagovian representatives to the village was cut short when a group of snagophobes attacked them. The Snagovian citizens quickly left the village, with one person sustaining mild injuries.

The following day, on 18 October, the President of Snagov, Ștefan Marius Snagoveanu, announced the creation of the Protectorate of Dridu and the mobilization of the Snagovian People's Ground Force to liberate the village.

Mobilization and SNU cooperation

On the first day, plans for the invasion, logistics, and necessary troop equipment were being prepared. It was decided that a team of 4 Snagovian soldiers would participate in the invasion, accompanied by the Commander-in-Chief, President Ștefan Marius Snagoveanu, and Ground Marshal, Vice President David Robert Davidovici. The government prepared two vehicles: one for the soldiers, a white Dacia Pick-up with necessary equipment stored in the back, and another for the President and Vice President, a Range Rover capable of handling the dirt roads leading to Dridu. On the 19th, the Snagovian National Unity militia decided to assist the government in the invasion. After negotiations, a deal was reached, ensuring that 2 SNU members would also invade Dridu from a different direction, using a Dacia Logan to reach the village. By the morning of the 20th, all preparations were complete, and the invasion was ready to begin.

20 October invasion and further occupation

That morning, on 20 October, the invasion began. The three vehicles embarked on a 29 km (18 mi) journey towards Dridu, passing through four Snagovian villages: Șanțu-Florești, Gruiu, Lipia, and Balta Cernă. After crossing a bridge over the Ialomița river, they navigated off-road terrain and dirt paths. By noon, the two Snagovian government vehicles reached the western entrance of the village. Meanwhile, the SNU vehicle was a few kilometers north, intending to approach from the northern entrance. The Snagovian People's Army Ground Force entered the village and raised the Snagovian flag.

The Snagovian People's Army initially retreated but later coordinated a joint attack with members of the Snagovian National Unity militia after encountering local resistance. The SNU successfully entered Dridu through its northern entrance, capturing one of the snagophobes. Simultaneously, the Snagovian People's Army entered the same street and apprehended another enemy combatant. The supposed leader of the resistance group surrendered, with both sides sustaining minimal injuries. Once the trio of captives was secured outside the contested area, a victory ceremony was initiated, where the flags of Snagov, its army, and the SNU, were raised. The three vehicles then returned to Siliștea, claiming victory and establishing a puppet government in the village under Snagovian protection, marking the birth of the Protectorate of Dridu.

The Snagovian People's Army continuted to sporadically occupy parts of the village until the 23rd, when the last troops withdrew following Vlad Rusescu's inauguration as President of Dridu.

Aftermath

The Protectorate of Dridu was fully established, with local Snagovian Dridans Vlad Rusescu and Ionuț Nicolae inaugurated as President and Vice President, respectively. The Protectorate maintains strong diplomatic relations with Snagov, counted as one of its closest allies. The two states frequently engage in trade and diplomatic visits. The government of Snagov has sworn to protect Dridu's sovereignty at all costs, viewing it as an integral part of the "Greater lands of the Snagov". Following the success of the special military operation, the government instituted a holiday on 20 October named "Dridu Day", intended to celebrate the village and its people.
