A referendum concerning Pontunian independence from the United Kingdom of the Great Bayou was held 29 June 2022. The referendum question was, "Do you support - regardless of public opinion - an objective recognition of the Kingdom of Pontunia's independence, therefore the dissolution of the United Kingdom of the Great Bayou and reestablishment of an Ela'r'oech federally ruled nation?", which voters answered with the following; "I support an independent Pontunia and the conversion back to the Empire of Ela'r'oech," "I support an independent Pontunia, however the United Kingdom of the Great Bayou should co-exist," and "I do not support an independent Pontunia under any circumstances, therefore the United Kingdom of the Great Bayou should remain." The results were finalized a few hours later as Andrew Perdomo opted to allow the breakaway Pontunia to rejoin the Kingdom willingly.

For record; Pontunia has violated the Constitution of the Bayou by seceding, has broken every mutual agreement between it and the rest of the Bayou States, and has undemocratically imposed a violent treasonous nationalist movement upon it's people. Pontunia is the Bayou. If Pontunia wishes to secede it should do it legally, passing constitutional amendments to allow it to do so.
