The Zbârcea Raion (Romanian : Raionul Zbârcea) is the capital raion of the Sabarian Federation. It serves as the de jure capital of the Federation. It is located on the shores of the Sabar river, also containing a small forest. Most of the Raion is made up of agricultural land, used for farming.
Etymology
The name "Zbârcea" comes from the name of a Romanian boyar called Sparcea that previously owned most of the land that now forms the Zbârcea. It is also known as Sbârcea, but the most widely used version is Zbârcea.
History
Formation of the village
The village of Zbârcea was first formed in 1897 when multiple peasents were given land. The village had 150 houses, a Orthodox Christian church in its northern part and individual 5 ha plots of land next to the Sabar that were used for agriculture and owned by the locals. All of its population was made up of agricultural workers, all of them being Romanians, altought it is speculated that some of the had Bulgarian origins. The predominant religion was Orthodox Christianity. In 1940 the village's own parish was formed.
Dissolution
In 1949, Zbârcea was split and became part of two of the neighbouring villages.
Sabarian era
After the formation of the Sabarian Federation, the idea to revive the village was brought forth. It was decided that Zbârcea will be the name of the Sabarian Raion located on the shore of the Sabar, because the land was part of the former village. In January 2024 it became the de jure capital of the Sabaria. Multiple Sabarian citizens began visiting the land and working on it. As the raion featured a small forest on the shore of the Sabar, it was decided that development would start from there. As of May 2024, the forest has mostly been cleared of all bushes and building of the settlement has begun.
