The Vice Chancellor of the Empire of Wellington (informally abbreviated to VCEW), is the vice to the Chancellor of the Empire of Wellington and serves as the chancellors principal advisor. There is presently no one holding the title.

Creation

The title was formed on the 22nd of August, only hours after the Empire succeeded and gained independence. It was created to assist the Head of Government, the Chancellor of the Empire of Wellington, in any of its duties, and to deputize in the absence of the Chancellor.

Elections

Wellington's electoral system is referred to as a "first past the post" system. The candidate with the most votes in a riding wins a seat in the House of Assembly and represents that riding as its Member of Assembly (MP). The Monarch of Wellington asks the Members of Assembly to form a government, which is normally the party whose candidates have won the most seats; that party's leader generally becomes Chancellor of the Empire of Wellington. An absolute majority of the electorate is not needed, and is rarely achieved. As a result, power is likely to be held by either of two parties. The party whose candidates win the second largest number of seats becomes the Official Opposition.

Authority

The Vice Chancellor of the Empire of Wellington also becomes a member of the House of Assembly of Wellington by default and is one of the few members that are not apart of the senate for life. Their house membership is removed upon vacating the Office of the Vice Chancellor. The Chancellor reserves the rights to the following:

  • Delegate and issue a notice to a member of the government to perform a certain duty by a certain date
  • Any authorities delegated by the Chancellor
