The United Nation of Degenerates (UND), internally referred to as the Republic, is a micronation located in Rhode Island proclaimed by students of Bishop Hendricken High School on 2 December 2021. The United Nation of Degenerates is a federal representative republic, with elected officials making up the Senate of the UND, the legislative body of the Republic. The head of state, the President of the UND, is an elected official and serves for life. Occupying several territories within Bishop Hendricken High School, the UND is divided into four different districts and one unorganized territory. The five districts of the UND consist of Theateria, Pepinia, McNallia, Vlasovia, and Degenerate-Apeborea. The Unorganized Territories are essentially the UND's colonies and are virtually uninhabited apart from military personnel stationed there. Theateria is the UND's capital and most populous city.
The United Nation of Degenerates began as the Hendricken Death Squad Recreational Club on 17 November 2021 but was eventually reformed into a functional state. The UND is located entirely on the campus of Hendricken, and conducts all internal affairs on the campus. The UND is currently led by President Chris Hansen of the progressive caucus of his own National Coconut Party following elections which were spurred after the abrupt resignation of President Zachary Brown on 13 June 2023. Contrary to popular belief, the UND has no hatred of freshmen themselves and accepts those who will pledge allegiance to the Republic. However, this belief stems from the declaration of the UND-Freshman State War, a conflict that ultimately resulted in a UND victory.
Etymology
Originating as Degenerates with Printers, the name United Nation of Degenerates was chosen via a country-wide referendum on 6 December 2021. This vote included other potential names, such as the Printerian Federation or the Republic of Printeria, but United Nation of Degenerates was chosen by the people.
History
Hendricken Defense Squad Recreational Club
The UND traces its origins back to the Hendricken Death Squad Recreational Club, a "joke paramilitary organization" began by sophomores of the school in late 2021. However, after learning about the true meaning of the term "death squad," the name was quickly changed to the Hendricken Defense Squad Recreational Club.
Outbreak of War
The Defense Squad remained an unofficial organization until 17 November 2021, a day after a skirmish broke out between sophomores and freshmen. During the opening stages, sophomore forces attempted to ease tensions but were ultimately unsuccessful. The resulting battle, known as the First Battle of the Football Field to the UND and the Battle of Hayden Stadium to the freshmen, was considered a strategic defeat but a tactical victory.
While the Defense Squad was officially formed, a declaration of war against the freshmen was drafted by HDSRC officers, followed by a rousing speech by one major official and commander of the Special Forces (now the UND's Marine Corps). The document was signed by many who were sympathetic to the cause. On 18 November 2021, a list of exempt freshmen was drafted by the Defense Squad.
Until 24 November 2021, the Defense Squad conquered more territory around the field around what was believed to be the freshmen territorial holdings in an event dubbed the Conquest of the Football Field, a strategic sophomore victory. Those territories would later be incorporated into the Unorganized Territories of the UND.
Beginning of the Chilly War
After the conquests at the field ended on 24 November 2021, Defense Squad officials declared a state of cold war with their enemy, dubbed the "Chilly War," During this and over the course of the coming weeks, new territories frequently switched hands between the Defense Squad and the freshmen. Additionally, this period was marred with mass deception campaigns from the UND, aimed at destabilizing and misleading the Freshman State.
Formation of the UND
The state that would become the UND was officially proclaimed on 2 December 2021, after a vote was held by HDSRC members to reform the entity into a nation. Zachary Brown was unanimously elected the first President of the United Nation of Degenerates. A nation-wide vote was then held to decide the name of the newborn faction which would end on 6 December 2021.
The territories of the UND were thereafter reorganized into several districts, which at the time consisted of Theateria, the capital, McNalllia, and Pepinia. For a short period of time, Technicallia was a separate district, bordering Bandia and Theateria; it was even represented on the original flag of the UND. However, it was later absorbed into Theateria. The other territories, those taken during the Conquest of the Football Field, became the Unorganized Territories.
On 17 December 2021, the United Nation of Degenerates secured all territories that were contested during the Chilly War, securing another victory over the freshmen.
Relative Stability
After December 2021, the United Nation of Degenerates saw a period of relative stability. On 2 January 2022, the Constitution of the UND was officially ratified. Over the course of the next few months, no major events ocurred other than continued tensions with the freshmen and major military reforms.
Mililtary reforms began in January and would continue into the coming months, ending on 9 March 2022. By the end of this time period, the Defense Squad, which was the de facto military force of the UND, was replaced by the much more organized and structured Armed Forces of the Republic, which consists of three branches: the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps. During this time, the UND also reached the height of its territorial claims.
Turmoil and Mass Deception Campaigns
On 3 March 2022, turmoil struck the UND when a notable freshman citizen began a breakaway state in the District of McNallia, called the Free State of McNalliia. The FSM managed to gather all freshmen who were residing under the UND, striking a blow to the stability of the Republic. Diplomacy was tried by the Republic to no avail. This was the publicized story, as in reality, the Free State of McNallia was secretly a puppet state of the UND, whose purpose was to ally with the Freshman State and betray them in battle.
on 4 April 2022, the UND acquired a relatively decently-sized chunk of territory adjacent to the Freshman State, enough territory to create a new district. Later that same day, a vote was conducted on whether to accept the land as a new district or for it to remain unorganized.
On 17 April 2022, the District of Bandia seceded from the UND, forming the Degenerate People's Republic, a self-proclaimed Marxist-Leninist state based in Vlasovgrad Oblast, formerly the District of Bandia, with its capital at the city of Vlasovgrad, formerly Bandia. The UND attempted to pursue diplomatic relations with the DPU, which were relatively successful until relations soured on 23 April, culminating with the withdrawal of UND support to the DPU. Additionally, the UND declared war on the DPU for allegedly aligning with the Freshmen. Similarly to the Free State of McNallia, the DPU was actually another UND puppet state with the same purpose as the FSM.
On 11 April 2022, the United Nation of Degenerates established an official alliance with Republic of Hasullahstan, a newly-formed state in the middle of its own civil war. The Department of State officially recognized Jebediah Powell as the legitimate leader of Hasullahstan over Ape V., later resulting in a Hasullahstani embassy being opened in Room 101, one of the most prominent settlements in what would become the District of Degenerate-Apeborea.
Peace
On 27 May 2022, the Treaty of McNallia was signed by the UND and Freshman State, thereby ending the UND-Freshman War. All territories of the former Freshman State were absorbed into the UND and a demilitarization order was put into effect. On 28 May 2023, the Articles of Re-Integration was ratified by the government of the UND, re-absorbing the Free State of McNallia and Degenerate People's Union. These articles also created the District of Degenerate-Apeborea, formed from the territories of the defunct Freshman State and unorganized territories that had been the subject of a nationwide referendum on 4 April. The FSM was reorganized into the pre-secession District of McNallia, while the DPU was reorganized into the District of Vlasovia, replacing the District of Bandia.
Red Order Crisis
In late May 2023, several 8th and 9th graders, all citizens of the UND, were overheard discussing plans to establish a sovereign state that would be aimed at destabilizing the UND. One of the individuals involved reported this to an unknown high-ranking UND official, who began monitoring the group. The group was internally dubbed the "Red Order," and its leader was confirmed to be one of the 8th graders.
The State Security Bureau was activated for the first time since the end of the UND-Freshman State War, launching Operation Shadow Guardian on 31 May 2023 and officially declaring the Red Order a threat to national security. UND disinformation campaigns continued to barrage the Red Order, eventually forcing it to capitulate and preventing it from gaining a significant foothold. The crisis was deemed over by a government spokesperson on 11 June 2023.
President Brown's Resignation
On 13 June 2023, President Zachary Brown abruptly resigned, delivering a farewell address. Jackatherius III was appointed acting President while Chris Hansen, current Chief-Commander-General, was appointed acting Vice President. This interim government is set to hold official elections in the near future, with Chris Hansen being the first and only confirmed candidate for the presidency, running under his own Coconut Party.
Interim Government and Elections
Following President Brown's resignation, an interim government was hastily formed with longtime UND official Jackatherius III serving as Interim President and General Hansen serving as Interim Vice President. The interim government presided over the nation's elections, which would occur the next day. The only registered candidates were Chris Hansen and James Roach, who ran with the newly-formed Coconut Party, and thus the pair won by default. The candidates were sworn in on 15 June 2023, beginning a new era in UND history.
Hansen Administration
Following the inauguration of the new administration, President Hansen gave the Third State of the UND address on Friday, 16 June 2023, which was streamed live beginning at 9 PM Eastern Standard Time. The Hansen Administration has presided over a period of unprecedented peace yet unexpected stagnation. The UND has seen no conflict—domestic or international—under this administration, yet growth has nearly ceased.
2024 Presidential Election
In late 2024, the Hansen Administration announced that a general election would take place in 2024--parallel to the 2024 United States presidential election--in which the ruling administration would run for re-election. On 9 September 2024, President Hansen unexpectedly announced his plans to step down from the presidency and thus withdraw from the race, citing his "declining mental stability" and "accelerated dementia." President Hansen endorsed his vice president, James Roach, approximately thirty minutes after releasing his initial statement. James Roach officially entered the race shortly after, choosing the Zyn God as his running mate.
Following Hansen's withdrawal from the race, official challengers to his vice president rose in the form of Theateria Senator Z Diddy and running mate "The Nuttapper," both controversial figures in UND politics, hailing from the right-wing caucus of the national party. Throughout the next month, both tickets campaigned relentlessly across the battleground districts Pepinia, McNallia, Vlasovia, and Degenerate-Apeborea, although the Diddy-Nuttapper ticket notably participated in more interviews than the establishment.
On Election Day--5 November 2024--Z Diddy was ultimately elected President of the United Nation of Degenerates, securing every battleground district in the greatest political upset in UND history, defeating incumbent Vice President James Roach. Z Diddy gained support across the board--securing 312 electoral votes, whereas Roach secured 226. Z DIddy and The Nuttapper are set to be inaugurated on 20 January 2025.
Politics and Government
The United Nation of Degenerates is comprised of five districts: the District of Theateria, the District of Vlasovia, the District of Pepinia, the District of Mcnallia, and the District of Degenerate-Apeborea. The rest of the UND's territories are known as the Unorganized Territories, which are relatively unpopulated apart from a miltary presence. The UND is a federal republic under a representative democracy with nearly every government official being elected by the people. The current ruling party is the progressive National Coconut Party. The current President of the UND is Chris Hansen, while the current Vice President is James Roach.
Foreign Relations
The United Nation of Degenerates is currently under self-imposed isolation following the end of the UND-Freshman War and has thus cut off all foreign relations.
Military
The Armed Forces of the United Nation of Degenerates (AFUND), also known as the Armed Forces of the Republic (AFR) is the military force of the United Nation of Degenerates. The AFUND consists of three major branches, the Degenerate Army, Degenerate Navy, and Degenerate Marine Corps. Much of the population of the United Nation of Degenerates is enlisted in the military and serves to some capacity.
Army
The Degenerate Army (DA), also known as the Republic Army (RA) is the army of the Armed Forces of the United Nation of Degenerates, responsible for ground warfare and operations. The Army is the largest branch of the UND and is also the oldest branch, being officially founded on 1 December 2021 but being able to trace its roots all the way back to the Hendricken Defense Squad Recreational Club.
The Degenerate Navy (DN), also known as the Republic Navy (RN) is the naval branch of the Armed Forces of the United Nation of Degenerates, responsible for naval warfare, operations, and exploration. Founded on 12 January 2022, the Navy is the least-equipped branch of the AFUND as it has not yet received any vessels, though there have been plans to construct ships of the Little Howlett-class Patrol Boat.
Marine Corps
The Degenerate Marine Corps (DNC), also known as the Republic Marine Corps (RMC) or simply as the Republic Marines, is the amphibious warfare and special operations branch of the Armed Forces of the United Nation of Degenerates. Officially proclaimed on 14 January 2022, the Marines, along with the Army, is able to trace its roots back to the Hendricken Defense Squad. The Marines are the most experienced and most well-trained operatives in the AFUND.
