The United Micronational Organization (UMO) is a diplomatic and political intermicronational organization with the intended purpose of maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations, achieving international cooperation, and serving as a center for coordinating the actions of member nations. It is led by General Secretary Chris I, a founder of the organization, along with Arkiv and Colania. The UMO was established on the 11th of December 2023 by the Republic of Vertricht (later the Nationalist Vertrian State), the Colanese Empire and the Venean Commonwealth. As of December 2024, the organization has 245 members in total, including 234 full members and 11 observer states. The main ruling body of the UMO is the United Council, which is made up of 15 member states elected every 3 months. The United Council also includes 3 permanent members, who are the founders of the Organization.

Objectives

Human Rights

One of the UMO's primary purposes is "promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion", and member states pledge to undertake "joint and separate action" to protect these rights. A member state's failure to maintain a democratic government and the fundamental freedoms of its citizens can result to its exclusion out of the UMO. Support of extremist ideologies/regimes, regardless of their ideology, can also led to sanctions and removal from the United Micronational Organization.

Assessments and reviews

Several studies have examined the United Council's responsiveness to armed conflict and problems between member states. Findings suggests that the Council is more likely to meet and deliberate on conflicts that are more intense and have led to more complex situations, but that its responsiveness is also shaped by the political interests of member states and in particular of the permanent members.

Criticism

Exclusion of member states

In the UMO, member states can be excluded for failure to abide to the basic rules of the organization. Some of these removals have led to criticism and controversy. As a ruling body, the United Council makes sure that all states respect the rules and takes action against violators.
