The Union of Antarctic Micronations (UAM) is a dissolved intergovernmental organization of member states located primarily in Antarctica. It was a political and economic union of unrecognized nations, or micronations. Similar to the European Union, while a diverse but semi-standardized market system was established to preserve the member states' own economic culture and trade, such as its own currency and trading partners, but with supervision from the UAM. The UAM aimed to ensure the freedom of citizens and trade, and the common policies of maintaining constant economic development in its member states.
The UAM was originally intended to be the Organization of Antarctic Micronations (OAM), but it was considered too misunderstanding with the short form being the same as the Organisation of Active Micronations. After the Treaty of Setubal came into effect on 9 August 2022, the UAM is fully established as a supranational organization, instead of an economic alliance. The UAM promoted the development of political and civil freedom, and intermicronational economic activity such as trade and commerce in goods, financial and producer services and properties. Various agreements were signed such as the Treaty of Centralton, the Convention of Hong Kong and the Treaty of Setubal to provide the organization a standard to the economic and political policies.
The headquarters of the UAM was in Concorde, Eintrachtia. The UAM was separated into three councils: the General Assembly, the Antarctic Council and the Parliament. The Council of the UAM was the executive council with 5 seats that consists of executive member states, similar to a security council, it safeguarded the foreign relations of the organization and tried to prevent member states from getting engaged in conflicts or wars in order to maintain political harmony and economic stability within the organization.
History
Initial suggestions
During a conference between John I and President Cyrus in July, an idea of a new supranational organization has been raised and put into discussion. The idea was to create an organization of micronations of a fixed category to come together and provide a standard of development in areas of politics, economy and liberty, similar to the EU. The initial suggestion for the organization was the Organization of Antarctic Micronations (OAM), but the name suggested was too similar to the Organisation of Active Micronations (OAM) when it comes to the short form.
After a round of discussions on 31 July 2022, a conclusion was made to establish the Union of Antarctic Micronations (UAM) and that it would be a supranational organization of micronation primarily or largely based in the continent of Antarctica.
Foundation
The Treaty of Centralton was first signed by Cyrance and Eintrachtia on 1 August and after an online meeting on 3 August, the Convention of Hong Kong was suggested onto the further development of the UAM. The Treaty of Setubal was then signed on 9 August 2022 as a final and standardized treaty of establishment of the UAM. The founding of the UAM has been held as a vote in the Parliament of Eintrachtia with 8 in favour and 2 against, no abstentions were made. King John I decided to sign the agreement on 9 August with President Cyrus of Cyrance.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Eintrachtia implemented by the Government of Eintrachtia has started a campaign on recruitments on other Antarctic micronations with the agreement from the Parliament of Eintrachtia supported by most of the Lower House and the Upper House.
Dissolve
The UAM didn't meet its goals of expansion in influence. After the Republic of Aksana, the only nation with no participation in the foundation, went inactive, the organization seemed to be running without any purpose. On 22 October 2022, one day after Eintrachtia-Cyrance dissolved, Eintrachtian King John I announced the official dissolve of the Union of Antarctic Micronations.
Structure
The UAM is made up of the General Assembly, the Antarctic Council and the Parliament. The Council of the UAM is the head of the Executive Council, and is permanently headed by the organization's founding state. The Council of the UAM only interferes with the organization's matters when it is in an emergency state in urgent need of restructuring. The Presidency of the Councils are re-elected in a 1 year term, exception is made for the Parliament's president, which elections can be put on hold for another year's term in special cases such as the vacancy of the Antarctic Council, in which the President of Parliament can also take over the role of the President of the AC. The Ministers of Finance and the Ministers of Policies are under the Antarctic Council, they manage the overall financial situation and the foreign relations of the member states, and to ensure the stability of the markets and the civil qualities of the states.
Foreign relations
Despite being a supranational union, member states of the UAM still holds most of its autonomy when it comes to foreign relations. Even though the UAM has some common allies between its members, the member states mostly keep the overall rights in decisions they make on foreign policies and commerce.
Policies
The UAM seeks to strengthen the security of its member states and the intermicronational community especially in Antarctica. Preserving peace within its limit and to promote cooperation between all Antarctic micronations. The UAM also seeks to develop and preserve democracy and freedom, human rights, civil liberty and economic cooperation. The UAM has no army in order to show peace to all parties. UAM also maintains diplomatic partnership with key organizations and micronations to develop such mission.
