History

In 1989, a woman named Orapin Sribunruang acquired a plot of land in Lamphun, Thailand, with the intention of building a school for students. In 2020, Phatchaphat Taechapattarakun and a group of friends claimed the elementary school building on this land. By 2022, this claim expanded to include the middle school building, thereby encompassing both structures.

Before July 27, 2024, Phatchaphat Taechapattarakun, the founder of Toroi, extended his claim to the entire school’s property, the adjacent forest designated as a national preserve, and a nearby village. The name “Toroi” was inspired by Phatchaphat’s fondness for roti, a popular flatbread, and symbolized the beginning of his project to establish a fictional country using the school grounds as its foundation.

On July 27, 2024, Toroi became one of the eighteen regions of the Republic of Balzi following a discussion between Phatchaphat Taechapattarakun and President Victa. This transition occurred through the Mass Territorial and Regional Integration Convention, marking Toroi’s entry into the framework of micronationalism as a recognized region within Balzi. Phatchaphat Taechapattarakun currently serves as the Governor of Toroi.
