Coat of Norderland

The State of Norderland  (hereinafter “Norderland”) is a sovereign state located between Croatia and Serbia on the west bank of the Danube River. On some maps, this area is referred to as “Pockets 0,2,3,4,5,6,7,8.” The nearest towns are Zmajevac (Croatia) and Bački Monoštor (Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, Serbia).

This parcel of land came into existence due to a border dispute between Croatia and Serbia. This area is not claimed by Croatia, Serbia, nor any other nation or private entity. Furthermore, it remained unclaimed since the dissolution of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1991. In fact, for many decades, it has been uninhabited and no claim was ever made to this piece of land. It was therefore Terra Nullius – a no man’s land – until  Bernard Typhis and Diana Haus  proclaimed it as the State of Norderland  on 17 April 2015. Norderland  has set its boundary with ample margin from neighbouring countries to ensure that it does not infringe upon the territory of Croatia or Serbia. The total area is approximately 4 km² and is now the third smallest sovereign state, after the Vatican, Liberland  and Monaco. (For more information regarding the border dispute between Croatia and Serbia see the wikipage

The proclamation document is being kept in the Historical Yacht Admiral Nevelskoi in Rodrigues Island in the Indian Ocean .

Climate and Fauna

Danube River Norderland

A continental climate exists in the interior of Norderland Same as Croatia which means that winters can be pretty cold, with temperatures often falling below 0°C/32°F. Snow is very likely, and can be pretty heavy during the winter.

Summers, on the other hand, can very often be sweltering with temperatures often reaching the mid to high 30s °C/high 80s or low 90s °F. When there’s no cool sea breeze (or the sea itself), it can get a little uncomfortable at times. Officially, average temperatures in the interior would be around the low 20s °C/low 70s °F but, from personal experience, it will be much hotter.

Weather in Northerland – when should I go?

If you thinking of the weather in terms of the best time to go to Norderland, we’d advise September…or possibly May. September still has glorious, sunny weather with warm temperatures, and the water will also still be warm enough for swimming.

May is also a great month to visit Norderland. Temperatures have already risen to a pleasant level and you’ll have more and more sunny days. However, there’s no sweltering heat that will make you want to lie down every half an hour!

Flag

The flag consist of a double headed eagle , outline and filled with white . The double headed eagle is in a white outline representing the globe ..

In heraldry and vexillology, the double-headed eagle (or double-eagle) is a charge associated with the concept of Empire. Most modern uses of the symbol are directly or indirectly associated with its use by the Roman/Byzantine Empire, whose use of it represented the Empire's dominion over the Near East and the West. The symbol is much older, and its original meaning is debated among scholars. The eagle has long been a symbol of power and dominion.

The double-headed eagle or double-eagle is a motif that appears in Mycenaean Greece and in the Ancient Near East, especially in Hittite iconography. It re-appeared during the High Middle Ages, from circa the 10th or 11th century, and was notably used by the East Roman Empire, but 11th or 12th century representations have also been found originating from Islamic Spain, France and the Serbian principality of Raška. From the 13th century onward, it became even more widespread, and was used by the Seljuk Sultanate of Rum and the Mamluk Sultanate within the Islamic world, and by the Holy Roman Empire, Serbia, several medieval Albanian noble families and Russia within the Christian world.

Used in the Eastern Roman Empire as a dynastic emblem of the Palaiologoi, it was adopted during the Late Medieval to Early Modern period in the Holy Roman Empire on the one hand, and in Orthodox principalities (Serbia and Russia) on the other, representing an augmentation of the (single-headed) eagle or Aquila associated with the Roman Empire. In a few places, among them the Holy Roman Empire and Russia, the motif was further augmented to create the less prominent triple-headed eagle.

Foreign Affairs Policy

A micronation can be a good candidate to get diplomacy and mutual recognition if respects, shares, agrees and matches the following points:

  1. Promotion of peace, neutrality, democracy, human rights and freedoms.
  2. Promotion of the respect for every religion, faith, race, sexual orientation and the absolute condemnation of every kind of discrimination.
  3. The micronation must be at least 6 months old. This can be void for micronations located on Italy or with Italian as national  language.
  4. The micronation must have a website with clear and truthful information (population, goals, territory, flag and so on).
  5. The micronation must exist in real life, located on a true place on the Earth planet.

If a micronation should violate one of the previous points after got mutual recognition and diplomatic relations, the Most Serene Empire of Azzurria reserves for itself the right to cut the mutual recognition and diplomatic relations, especially in cases of human rights violations and if the micronation shows a belligerent behaviour, starting offensive wars (no matter against who).

The only way to apply for diplomatic relations is through the online application on the official website.

The State of Norderland recognizes micronations with the recognition of theat micronation in return.

The State of Norderland  currently follows a Policy of recognizing all Micronations as being legitimate countries and nation states. The State of Norderland  is currently open to accepting all Treaties of Mutual Recognition, Alliances and Treaties which might be presented to the Department of Foreign Affairs.
