Constitution of Knightowa |
The State Assembly of Knightowa, sometimes just the Knightowan Assembly, is the unicameral legislature of Knightowa. It makes up the legislative branch of the Government of Knightowa. The assembly is elected by first past the post and the Lieutenant Governor of Knightowa sits as president of the assembly.
The state assembly sits for one year sessions, and terms of four years. Elections for the state assembly are staggered.
History
The state assembly was established on 21 May 2023. It was established by the Constitution of Knightowa.
Role
Article I of the Knightowan Contitution vests all state legislative abilities in the State Assembly. The primary role of the state assembly is developing and passing state laws, however they still have to keep law in accordance with federal law.
The state assembly can also be used to keep the executive branch in check. They can also bring impeachments trials against the Governor and other state officers.
Structure
Officers
The Lieutenant Governor of Knightowa sits as President of the State Assembly. However, their role is similar to that of the Vice President of the United Federation's in the United Federation Senate. The role is as a presiding officer, and non-voting unless a tie-breaking vote is needed.
