The Republic of Zalissia is a sociopolitical government project, more commonly known as a micronation, was founded on August 31, 2019, when the President Kayky Dias decided to unilaterally declare independence of his neighborhood, located in Brazil, South America.

Etymology

Zalissia, from "Zalißland" in Zalissian language, means "free nation". And has the same name of a village in Ukraine.

History

Empire of Brazil

The history of Zalissia starts in the Empire of Brazil. On March 29, 1858, the imperial family, aboard the first train of the D. Pedro II Railway, was on a special mission to inaugurate the 48 km stretch between Campo Station and Queimados. The people of the village, who attended the ceremony, were honored by the Emperor's visit and understood that moment as the official moment of the inauguration of the town of Queimados. In the 18th century, the town where the municipality of Queimados is located was part of the lands of the parish of Nossa Senhora da Conceição de Marapicu. This was the last of the parishes of the then municipality of Iguassu, which was still placed by the parishes of Our Lady of Piety Iguassu, St. Anthony of Jacutinga, Our Lady of Pilar and St. John of Meriti. The Parish of Nossa Senhora do Marapicu, due to its economic importance, ended up receiving the title of Perpetual Parish. With the expansion of the coffee economy in the mid-19th century, the D. Pedro II Railway was built, bringing more prosperity to the region. The initial project of this railway provided for the extension of the tracks to the parish of Nossa Senhora de Belém and Menino Deus, current Jacutinga, who even built a building to host the station. But thousands of Chinese road-builders were victims of malaria and cholera epidemics that devastated the entire colony in 1855.

As the death of the Chinese workers would slow the continuation of the railway works, the Burn Station was quickly built. According to history, the origin of the name of the municipality is due to this event, since the Chinese had the custom to burn their dead. This custom created among the popular, who had to go through the place where the bodies had been burned, the following way to indicate the way: "I go the road of the burned", which eventually named the place.

Since 1833, the Parish of Our Lady of Conception of Marapicu corresponded to an Ecclesiastical District, which was subordinate to the City Council of Rio de Janeiro, represented by an Intendant who was in Nova Iguaçu, at that time Vila de Iguassu. Marapicu and Queimados have long been disputing the headquarters of this district. In 1944, under the decree State Law, No. 1063, Queimados became the 2nd District of Nova Iguaçu.
