The Arctic Confederation, officially designated as the Confederation of Antarctic Islands, is an is an Antarctic micronational democratic state located in all 51 officially uninhabited Antarctic islands. The nation is known for its catering to environmentalist policies, charismatic people, and rowdy political cabinet. The Arctic Confederation came into fruition in Jan. of 2020, upon which its leader, Connor Woodson, sent an email to the UN in which he claimed ownership over "51 Antarctic and Sub-Antarctic islands not currently used by the world for a real purpose." This letter has not yet been read by the UN, but Connor has said he "doesn't expect it to be read soon".
Etymology
The motto "Gloria Sociis" derives from the Latin saying of Glory to Allies. This is in reference to New Katy's long-standing accomplishment during the Katy War, which it was aided by the now dissolved Republic of Galveston. In diplomatic speeches, the Greatness always addresses the other nation with Gloria Sociis.
Katy War
On 23 November 2020, The Progressive Republic of New Katy was officially declared independent by Greatness Connor Woodson. This was met with an official declaration of war by the now defunct Communist State of Texas. The war was primarily fought along the Cinco Front, the Spartan Front, and the Grinder Front, being noted as some of the bloodiest fighting in Micronational History. Connor Woodson, before the war, was an admiral of the Communist State of Texas. He was awarded the People's Prize, and the Liberational Honor medals. At the start of the war, the entire micronational community pondered what to do about the situation. Katy was an important and strategic position if any nations needed to launch a full-scale attack on the then-superpower of Texas. However, many believed New Katy would be wiped off the map within 1–3 days. However, after 2 months. all fronts settled after the most-important battle in New Katy's History, The Impossible Offensive, launched on 12 December 2020. The plan was extremely well-crafted, but was seen as unimaginable by micronational powers. At 00:00, Katan forces made a breakthrough in Texan lines, encircling them within a railroad station near Cinco. Katan forces then turned towards a fuel depot. This would provide important fossil-fuels necessary for the offensive. After 5 hours, the depot was taken, along with 12 POWs. The Cinco front had collapsed, and now Katan forces could reportedly see "over 2,000 Texan forces running about like maniacs." 6 hours later, Katan forces then broke through the left flank of Texan forces near the Spartan Front, breaking communications and supply routes vital to Texan forces. After a grueling month long siege, Texan forces surrendered. The Grinder front collapsed along with it, as without Texan forces in the Spartan Front, they would be quickly overwhelmed. The offensive ended on January 6, 2021. 8 days later, New Katy became a Republic. Connor Woodson, who was the main general of Katan forces, was elected the Greatness of New Katy. In a speech, he described how "this war was brutal. It left a 12th of our population homeless, and an 11th missing a family member. However, with their sacrifice came our victory. These men, women, and others are the reason the blue, green and yellow flows through our vains today.
War for the Republic of Galveston
On Nov 24th, 2021, the Republic of Galveston was invaded by an unknown rebel army, possibly led by Obsidian National Feminist Forces. In a joint statement, both the Republic of Galveston and New Katy formed the Coastal Entente, an alliance which was both militarily and economically run by New Katy. New Katy responded to the attacking forces by sending in some of the most trained armies in the nation. New Katy's aid would prove vital to the war effort. On Nov 31st, Obsidian Forces achieved a breakthrough in the Galvestonian Seawall, sending High Command into a panic. However, under New Katy's Greatness Connor Woodson, the 45th Mobilized Noble Brigade and the 67th New Katy Special Forces were able to resecure the coastal seawall. Combined with the well armed Galvestonians, both nation's armies gave a disastrous blow to Obsidian Forces. The Battle For the Beaches would become its official name, and became a shock to the world to see New Katy, a nation fresh out the womb, preform astonishingly well. On Jan 2nd, 2022, the Ambulatory Free States of Obsidia declared war on the Republic of Galveston and New Katy. High Command began to not panic, but outright insult Obsidia, calling them "fake-egalitarians." On Jan 24, 2022, Obsidian forces were seen sailing into Galveston Harbour. Efficiently, all armies present on the beach were moved into defensive positions. After about 45 minutes, Obsidian landing-boats could be seen.
In a famous quote, Connor Woodson said "I am not sure if our defenses will hold, but I'm sure they'll (Obsidian Forces) be withered down to a mere company." After a frivolous and violent 5 day battle, all of the original Obsidian forces were either evacuated, captured, dead, or missing. The 2nd Battle For the Beaches would become extremely popular in pop-culture. On Feb 4, after a failed cyber-attack, Obsidia sued for peace.
Breakup of the Republic of Galveston
On 3 March 2022, it was announced that due to mounting unrest, low wages, and a brutal tyrant, the Republic of Galveston would officially be put in the hands of New Katy. Reportedly, President Connor Woodson began to cry after hearing the news. He vowed to do the best he could to help. Connor decided to create three districts of Galveston, which would become Nova Galvestia, Beaches Republic, and Saltwater State. All unanimously voted in favor of vassalization by New Katy. Today, all three Sister Republics are under the Rememberance Union, dedicated to the Republic of Galveston's then capital, Rememberance.
First Election
On 17 March 2022, New Katy held its first-ever election. The candidates were from the Rebuild Galveston party, the Democratic Party, and the Continuation Party. The Rebuild Galveston party, if elected, would present a new, unified Galveston. This was widely unpopular among the country due to New Katy's extremely close bonds with the Union. The Democratic Party wished to turn New Katy into a full democracy. They were reviewed as mediocre. The Continuation Party was led by Connor Woodson, and like the name suggests, would keep the current party. They were met with an uproar of support. By an electoral college landslide, the Continuation Party remained in power. In the usual speech, Connor Woodson proclaimed the creation of two new bills. The first was the Foreign Open Act, which would allow nations to submit applications for review from High Command about recognition/relations. The second was the Corkscrew Act which stated that the military would be extended to an Airforce and a Navy.
The Conquistador Treaty Organization
On 29 April 2022, The Progressive Republic of New Katy, The Democratic Republic of Greater Snocesterlan, Confederation of Malus, Kingdom of Salanda, and Empire of Lehmark agreed to the creation of the Conquistador Treaty Organization (CTO). The 5 signed formal recognitions of each other's republics, then agreed to create the alliance to combat any military/economic threats. On May 24th, 2022, Connor Woodson announced the dissolution of the CTO. According to the Greatness, "It was in our interests, as Katan citizens, to embark further into alliances that suited our interests, not alliances that suited our recession." Connor Woodson then lowered the CTO flag from his office.
Gloria Sociis Expanded Act
The Expanded Act, signed by Connor Woodson, states in a simplified view that New Katy will work harder to ensure more nations are given protection, along with the expansion of diplomatic relations to any nation who wishes to establish them. The act says any nation within the favored section of diplomacy will be aided in armed rebellion/war, but lesser-favored will only be given proxy aid. The act states that any fascist, neo-nazi, communist, or totalitarian states will be designated as a blacklisted power, meaning they cannot apply for relations until governmental change occurs. The act states in its final line that the formation of an alliance with all nations diplomatically active with New Katy is on the table, however it will take time. Connor Woodson promoted this law to High Command, by which it was signed into action on May 8, 2022.
Reformation
On 12 May 2022, Connor Woodson announced the beginning of a reformation era, dedicated to turning New Katy into a place of democracy and safety. His first act was to pass a Citizenship Freedom Period, where any person from any country could get into the nation. The law was extremely popular, and reunited families with the people who had been MIA in the Galveston War. A total 3,000 families were reunited, much to the dismay of the Ambulatory States of Obsidia, who wished to keep the prisoners for [REDACTED INFORMATION]. The economy then saw a drastic increase in production. Connor Woodson established a tighter grip on the economic corruption, military industry, and environmental infrastructure. The current goal is possibly either a more suitable defensive military, and rebuilding critical infrastructure.
The Great Founding
After a month of reforms, many of which Mr. Woodson had to fight tooth and nail for among his Parliament, New Katy began experiencing an Economic Boom. Mr. Woodson was able to secure MREs, syringes, critical infrastructure, and the population began to increase. Money was coming in to the government, and New Katy began rapidly building up the parliament from a shack to a real room to discuss the nation's needs. People began to regain their homes, their businesses, and their rights after the bloody 2nd Battle for the Beaches. Belief in the Continuation Party was extremely visible during the midterms, with Connor Woodson's acceptance within the populace exploding from 76% to 98% acceptance rate. This period was known by many as "The Great Founding", due to how it laid the groundwork for the expansion and overall improvement of the country.
Diplomatic Policies
During the Great Founding, Greatness Connor Woodson began to alert his government to the process of how diplomacy would work. According to previous parliament members, diplomatic recognition was to be issued out to any nation deemed fit for New Katy's criteria. The nation had to be 6 months old, could not be Fascist, Pro-Putinist, Communist, or Anarchist, had to have a functioning government, had to have a Coat of Arms, and had to be a peaceful nation (If on a defensive or justified offensive war, the nation must win.) If a nation came to New Katy, they were to talk with the ambassador of diplomatic relations via online meeting. Military alliances were much different. New Katy is a strongly passionate nation for its allies, and is friendly with most nations. If a nation requested access into the CTO, they had to pass the inquiry of diplomatic relations, while having at least 1 piece of military equipment. These policies were widely popular among the government, with only 1 out of the 15 members saying no to the policies.
Present Day
Today, New Katy is a prosperous micronation. With diplomacy outreached to open hands, and micronations leaning to appreciate the state, the future of New Katy is seen as bright. New Katy has expanded, fully annexing the Rememberance Alliance with a referendum back in July of 2022. The nation has a 1% poverty rate, one of the lowest in the world. Citizens state "Connor does an excellent job keeping us safe and healthy. He has my vote until I pass on."
