Republic of Koedijk

The Republic of Koedijk is an micronation located north of Alkmaar in The Netherlands.

The Flag of Koedijk is an yellow hourglass with five pillars on top of an glazeblue square/shield

As of now, around 300 people live in Koedijk and it does not have a army.

The country became independent in 1324 under the lead of Graaf Willem III van Holland.

A "dijk" was build to protect other pieces of land along the Rekere, a former river that lied in the same place as the Noordhollandsch Kanaal.

That dijk was called; De Coedijc.

The people that lived there first lived in Vronen. But because of the West-Friesen/Holland wars around that time the Vronen people were forced to flee their homes. They fleed to Coedijc, and thats where the legacy of Koedijk began.
