The Republic of Hakoi (ROH), more commonly known as Hakoi is a micronation located in central Arkansas, completely surrounded by the United States. It claims a modest population of 10 people, with no official administrative divisions.
Hakois’s territory was, before colonization by European powers, inhabited mainly by the Quapaw and Caddo peoples. It was incorporated into the French Empire and handed to the United States after the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, and was slowly settled. Hakoi was officially declared on March 30, 2024, though the idea for the nation came much earlier, in 2019. The founder and current president of Hakoi is Cambrin A, with Sorier A as his right-hand man. Currently, Hakoi has established an alliance with New Pulaskia and has a tense relationship with neighboring Europea.
Etymology
Hakoi’s name comes from the star of Hakoi (a fictional star created by Cambrin A, in the myths and lore of Hakoi itself).
History
The Kingdom of Hakoi was formerly a part of the United States of America, specifically the State of Arkansas. The area began to be settled in numbers in the early 1800s, and Little Rock, one of the first and largest settlements, began in the 1820s. The land was urbanized and industrialized throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. In 2019, Cambrin A first had the idea to create a nation, a place for himself to be. This notion was likely furthered by New Pulaskia another large micronation, which offered to accept both Cambrin and his brother (now the leader of neighboring Europea), though they both politely declined. The nation was officially founded on March 30, 2024, with Cambrin reigning as monarch, and by April 2, the population of the nation had increased to 3, with the national sports declared as badminton and Formula One racing and a royal edict declaring animals to be equal to people. On the 3, the population had grown to 6, with “worship” of Susanoo Kitsune beginning around that time, and a plan laid out for the creation of a Hakoian Royal Army. The Pulaskian-Hakoian Alliance Treaty would be signed on the (insert day here) at Port Royal in Pulaskia, with the two nations finally consolidating their friendship in a written treaty. Days later, on the (insert day here), however, the Kingdom was abolished by Cambrin, who abdicated his throne in favor of a republic with himself as President. Tensions were high, however, with the Republic engaging in a brief race with the rival Republic of Europea to grow their populations. Not long after, designs for a state flag, coat of arms, embassy flag, infantry uniform, national pledge, and currency known as the Hakoian Chi were created and approved, and on the 13 April construction of a Minecraft world based on Hakoi and other micronations began. Later, a “palace” would also be constructed out of blocks at the Hakoian capital of Fushue. On May 27, a brief crisis between Pulaskia, Hakoi, and Europea ensued, with European president Carson A forging a note from Cambrin stating that Sorier had seceded from Hakoi to form his own very strong republic, requesting assistance, resources, and funding. Upon talking to Cambrin however, this was revealed to all be fake and the crisis was averted before the Pulaskian government voted on declaring war. A subsequent request for an alliance with Europea was put up for “consideration”, with President Ayden T of Pulaskia stating he would prefer keeping the Hakoian alliance over a European one, which he believed to be more stable and trustworthy. Since the crisis, things have calmed in Hakoi, with the nation settling into a peaceful rest for the time being. Recently, ties with Pulaskia were strengthened upon the addition of a new clause to the Pulaskian-Hakoian Alliance Treaty, which recognized that the treaty would remain in place despite the change of government from Kingdom to Republic within Hakoi months before, and in August 2024, the Pulaskian Presidential Council approved the treaty, officially solidifying the good relations between the two nations.
Government and Politics
Hakoi is currently governed by a democratic republic. The head of state and government is the President of Hakoi, who handles government running, foreign affairs and treaties, state business, and appointing officials, among other things. Currently, the President is Cambrin A, and his right-hand man is Sorier A. No elections have yet been held, and no constitution exists to codify the nation’s inner workings. Previously, the nation was a monarchy, with Cambrin A as King, but he abdicated in April of 2024 in favor of a republic with himself as the first President. Stephanie T remains a Grand Duchess left over from the era of the Kingdom of Hakoi.
Foreign Relations
Currently, Hakoi has only established official relations with New Pulaskia, through the Pulaskian-Hakoian Alliance Treaty, with good relations between the two nations. This treaty has been revised to include provisions for the democratic government of Hakoi (as the treaty was deemed to establish an alliance between New Pulaskia and the Kingdom of Hakoi) and has passed in the Pulaskian Presidential Council. Relations, however, are tense between Hakoi and neighboring Europea, with verbal conflict between leaders of the two nations having erupted in multiple occasions, but never having escalated into full-scale war, though small incidents have occurred previously that also involved Pulaskia, with the nation taking the side of Hakoi.
Military
The Hakoian military is composed of a single branch, the Hakoian Army. As of April 2024, it consists of one enlisted service person. Its commander-in-chief is the President, Cambrin A at this time, who oversees troop placement, supply, and movement. Hakoi has a proposed official uniform that has not yet been put into circulation, comprised of robes, above which is samurai-esque armor. Regular infantry would don conical straw hats, with officers making use of more modern camouflaged and brimmed hats.
Geography
The Republic of Hakoi’s territory consists of an unknown number of houses spread throughout at least Pulaski County in Arkansas. This area is mostly flat and forested in areas, with the old Royal (now Presidential) Palace housed in North Little Rock just minutes away from the Pulaskian Presidential residence and Provinstadt National Park. Details will not be revealed by request of the Hakoian government. Elsewhere, Hakoi is currently in the process of establishing an embassy to New Pulaskia on land in Pulaskia’s Garland Territory at Port Royal, which will be constructed of wooden panels to serve as an official diplomatic connection between the two nations. A site has already been chosen and a sign posted to let visitors to Port Royal know of the project. The area chosen is flat and grassy, with no trees in the immediate vicinity.
Climate
Hakoi has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and cold winters. Rainfall and snowfall are evenly divided among the months of the year, and yearly sunshine hours average about a good 3,100. Summer is hot and humid throughout Hakoi, with average highs of 91°F (33°C). Winters are generally mild to cool, with average highs of 51 °F (11 °C). Early spring (March) is cool-ish and mid and late spring (April/May) is warm to hot.

Demographics
Culture and Languages
Hakoi has two official languages, English and Japanese, despite 100% of the population being native English speakers. The majority of government business is written bilingually in both languages, but is conducted in English. About 10% of the population can actually speak some Japanese, with 20% of the population able to speak some Spanish. On the religious scene, the nation is almost exclusively Baptist Christian, with smaller sects being Atheist, and Cambrin having previously stated that the Kingdom of Hakoi venerated a wise owl that watches over the nation, with a possible connection to the old Kingdom's coat of arms. The culture is heavily influenced by American and Japanese culture, with the populace celebrating Christmas, the 4th of July, Halloween, etc, as well as celebrating the "Festival of the Seas", commemorating the mythical giant turtle that protects Hakoi, taking place from April 26 - May 4.

The national animal of Hakoi is the owl, representing the maternal grandfather of President Cambrin, while the national sports of Hakoi are Formula One (F1) racing and Badminton.
Population
The population of Hakoi currently stands at 10, with citizens eligible to vote in elections which have not yet taken place. Almost all Hakoian citizens live in the Pulaski County area of Arkansas with some outliers, but regularly travel elsewhere. Many have mixed ancestry as German, Italian, Hispanic/Latino and many other groups.
Economy and Labor
The population of Hakoi is employed in a small number of jobs. Despite a large portion of the population not being of working age, those who are are employed in technology companies and the United States military. Few exports exist, while imports from the United States are almost everything imaginable, from clothing to food to electronics and art supplies.
