The Republic of Great Britain, more commonly known as The Somerset Republic is a European micronation landlocked within the UK county of Somerset, and with a small 1 acre territory in the neighbouring county of Dorset.

The Republic of Great Britain refers to itself as a "sovereign state". The republic utilises a semi presidential democratic republic form of government, which sees an elected official hold the position of President (Head of State). While the Prime Minister serves as the Head of Government. A Governor is also appointed to oversee our territory in Dorset. The republic has a bicameral parliament with an upper house (Senate) and a lower house (National Assembly).

History

The Republic of Great Britain was founded on 6 July 2020. The original location of the republic was on a 1 acre property in the county of Dorset in the UK, two days after the signing of the declaration of independence - 8 July 2020, the republic transitioned to its current site: a 4 acre plot of land at the bottom of a stunning national park in a picturesque village. Upon the creation of the republic, a presidential election was held, which resulted in the National Conservative Party candidate, Rafe Burfield receiving 6 out of the 8 votes. Elections to the Senate and the National Assembly were held a week later, out of the 100 seats in the Senate, The National Conservative Party won 62, while 24 were won by the Liberal Party, and the remaining 14 by the Democratic Labour Party. Out of the 500 seats in the National Assembly, 388, were won by the National Conservative Party, 82 by the Democratic Labour Party, and 30 by the Liberal Party.

Politics and government

The Republic of Great Britain is a Semi Presidential Democratic Republic. A President is elected every 5 years to serve as Head of State while also holding the positions of Chairman of the Cabinet and Commander in-chief of the Armed Forces. As per the constitution of the Republic of Great Britain, it is the duty of the President to appoint a Prime Minister to serve as the nation's Head of Government. The Prime Minister is responsible for the day to day running of the government and its executive departments.
