The Order of the Sabre is a chivalric order in the Commonwealth of Altavia. It was founded on 3 January with the signing of the Decree VI in the Altavian constitution. It features the ranks of Nationale, Knight/Dame, and Commander.
In recent times, ranks in the Order of the Sabre are generally given to the friends and family of the Monarch. Commander is typically reserved for the Emperor's closest and most trusted friends and family, and can be regarded as part of his inner circle.
For the Nationale rank, the full name would be: Sir/Madam Nationale (Name) of (Place), (Other titles A - OR) OS (Other titles OS* - Z)
For the Knight/Dame rank, the full name would be: Sir/Madam Nationale (Name) of (Place), Knight/Dame of the Order of the Sabre, (Other titles A - OR) OS (Other titles OS* - Z)
For the Commander rank, the full name would be: Sir/Madam Nationale (Name) of (Place), Commander of the Order of the Sabre, (Other titles A - OR) OS (Other titles OS* - Z)
The head of the Order is the Duke of Altavia, currently Lukas Hovheanes I, who bears the title Sovereign of the Order of the Sabre. The Monarch alone can induct members into the Order, although the legislation that created the Order states that the Nobles can make recommendations. The words given by the current Emperor when inducting new members into the Order are:
"With my right as Duke of Altavia and Sovereign of its most noble Order, I, Duke Lukas the First, do hereby name thee Sir/Madam (Name) of (Place), (Rank) of the Order of the Sabre."
Most knighthoods and damehoods are granted as part of the Birthday Honors List, published on the Monarch's birthday. Duke Lukas I's birthday is 3 July.
