The United Empire of Opstandia, commonly known as Opstandia, is a micronation founded on 8 August 2020 after declaring independence from Boazland. Kaiser Denver I reigns as a constitutional monarch while at the mean time the state is led by no one.
History
2020
"Opstand" is a Dutch noun for revolt, reflecting Opstandia's revolt for independence from Boazland on the 8th of August 2020. The 4 day long ‘War’ for Independence would end on the 12th of August with the establishment in r the Opstandian Republic and dissolution of the Boazland Empire. Upon the Declaration of Independence from Boazland Panda would form a military junta, with himself titled President, a position he would have retained for life. Shifting into a more republican nation, Panda would appoint a council (at a date currently not recorded) who acted as his as advisors however as time went on they would eventually turned against him. As a result President Panda would dissolve the council and would carry on ruling the nation on his own.
2021
On 13 February 2021, Opstandia was converted into an Empire and the United Empire of Opstandia was declared, President Panda took the regal name of Denver I, and was crowned Kaiser of Opstandia. Eventually, Denver enlisted the help of his former council, though later fired them all once again for similar disagreements. After starting an elected government, there were multiple attempted coups against the Kaiser, and at one point in the Communist Party of Opstandia, the lower-level members rebelled and couped the higher-level members and made themselves its new leaders.
2022
In September 2022, Okko became the Prime Minister of Opstandia, banning elections and all other political parties from Government. This caused a civil conflict between the Union Party of Opstandian Social-Communists and governing Imperialist parties. Raphael Smith of the Communist Party eventually started and won a civil war against Okko, with Gabriel Carmicheal appointed Prime Minister. Such alterations made by Okko to the legislature were permanently banned. Smith later left the Communist Party for the Neutralist Party.
2023
Dual prime ministership
Paranoid of being ousted, Carmicheal arrested multiple Opstandians. He remained prime minister until 1 January, when the Neutralist Party gained control by an election. The Neutralist Party, made up of Raphael Smith, and Tom Holland, an ex-imperialist. The party was neutral to the conflict between the Union Party of Opstandian Social-Communists and the Imperialist parties, and was the first party to have a dual prime minister organization. During this time, on 15 March, Opstandia declared a state of war against Roekistan, which lasted a day, with no conflict. Smith resigned as Prime Minister and left his party, causing an election. Smith created the Democratic Party of Opstandia, later the Freedom Party of Opstandia, with Kieran Jones.
Premiership of Thomas and Smith Regency
In March, Thomas joined the Freedom Party of Opstandia and quickly grew to the position of party leader, on account of his speechmaking abilities. Thomas won the election succeeding Raphael Smith and Tom Holland, although being appointed in an economic crisis, was swift to solve it. His deputy, Smith was appointed acting Prime Minister in May due to an illness of Thomas. Campaigning on behalf of Thomas, Smith won the 24 May election for Thomas, and remained acting Prime Minister.
Regency and Schpecktenia conflict
Schpecktenia declared war on Opstandia on the 15th of June, before rescinding the declaration after 4 days. As such, this was colloquially known as the Lackluster War, and Opstandia won the conflict after Schpecktenia surrendered and accepted the humiliating defeat. The FPO won the 29 June election by one vote. On 1 July, the Opstandian Times, a national newspaper, was founded. From 23 – 28 June, Raphael Smith was briefly appointed Regent of Opstandia. The last day of the regency has been recognized by a national holiday, known as the Genezing van Denver.
Oakforvia conflict
Oakbank and Garforvia, two separate states, were amalgamated and took the name of Oakforvia. Garforvia later split to form Eldemoor. This caused military conflict between the two nations over the question of the name of Oakforvia, and whether Oakbank can still use the amalgamated name, or revert or change. On 10 July, Denver and Gabriel Carmicheal went to Raphael Smith's house, demanding Smith declare war on Eldemoor or yield premiership to Carmicheal to do so, and attempted to force him by bribery and being shot with water. After this didn't work, Smith was arrested. This was stopped by Thomas, and Smith remained Prime Minister. A second attempt was made with the support of Lucas Jones, but was unsuccessful.
Smith premiership
After the lengthy premiership of Thomas, Raphael Smith decided to leave the Freedom Party to create a new party, the Centralist Democratic Party of Opstandia. It immediately became the largest party, accumulating 10 members of the legislature in less than an hour, and remains so, with the party and Smith being elected into government on 29 August.
Baustralian rule
After discussion with John of Baustralia, it was decided having non-unified private militia units was a large cause for the coups, and it was decided that Opstandia would join the Baustralian Empire, and Denver would become Viceroy and Governor General. John, known as Jan in Opstandia, took the throne on 11 September 2023, and the next day released directions to outlaw private militias per Operation Regroup.
After a successful restructuring, John yielded his position back to Denver after a demonstration, colloquially known as the 24-Minute War, arose in support of a contracted force, but without the month's "overseen" phase of the Operation. John ruled Opstandia for four days, and remained Commander-in-Chief over Opstandia until the 21st of December.
Chart Regency
On 5 October 2023, due to a certain illness that came over Denver, Smudgy Chart, leader of the Opstandia For All party, was declared regent of Opstandia until his recovery. The commanding officer of the Baustralian Dragoons, Rapheal Smith, also became acting Commander, Opstandia Command for this period.
Establishment of the House of Representatives
On 22 November, alongside the elections, a House of Representatives was formed. The Centralist Democratic Party of Opstandia, chaired by Raphael Smith, won with 6 of 12 seats, forming a government in coalition with the Opstandian Supremacy Party. The Opstandia Supremacy Party and the Communist Party of Opstandia each won three seats. There were later accusations of voter fraud as leaked information revealed that Raphael Smith had manipulated the votes to give the CDPO an edge.
Gabriellan Revolt
On 29 November, after allegations of Gabriel Carmicheal's criminal past, he was tried in the Supreme Court. Carmicheal was charged with high treason in connection with two attempted coups, and was sentenced to penal labour. In an attempt to be liberated, he unsuccessfully tried to wager a war. Focusing on the centralization of the autonomous regions, Elite was incorporated as a province. Rebbellenburg, under the control of Carmicheal, was resistant to this, however, and led to an attack on Rebellenburg, originally unknown to Baustralian High Command. The operation proved successful, and was later condoned by the High Command.
Prime Minister Raphael Smith's Resignation
On 17 December, Prime Minister Raphael Smith performed an unsanctioned raid on the People's Republic of Turisa and was promptly tried in court for his actions, thus leading to his resignation, appointing Ein Bauch as Interim Prime Minister, and a 4-month political ban for Smith.
Creation of New Opstandia
On 21 December, Raphael Smith broke his political ban, creating a petition to separate the roles of Supreme Judge and Prime Minister, which had then been temporarily combined. He was warned by the government but continued to break his ban. He was then asked to transfer ownership of the Opstandian server, but refused to do so, effectively couping the government. This led to a rebellion by the rest of his governing coalition, who then proceeded to set up a new server, creating New Opstandia. At that point, the House of Representatives had not functioned for months mostly due to inactivity, so the government, now excluding Raphael, reorganized the legislature into the Opstandian Senate, fixing Smith's previous voter fraud, giving the CDPO 6 seats (5 of which were temporarily allocated to OSP members due to inactivity), the OSP 4 seats and the CPO 2 seats in the Senate. A new democratic Constitution was created and many new laws were passed, giving Opstandian citizens fundamental rights that had not been guaranteed before such as all rights guaranteed in the European Convention on Human Rights.
Formation and dissolution of the Opstandian Protectorate of Stret Merdhin
On 26 December, the Opstandian government was informed by the leader of the Republic of Stret Merdhin that the Levinian Commonwealth, a group that Opstandia was a part of, was allegedly a front for Levinia to annex nations. Ashley, the leader of Stret Merdhin, also requested Opstandian protection and so Opstandia promptly left the Levinian Commonwealth and granted her nation protectorate status, giving Opstandia partial control over its government. This led to great co-operation between the nations, until it was uncovered that Ashley had not held elections, as was required by the Protectorate Treaty, and had been oppressing her people by banning festivals such as Halloween and banning any dissent against her policies. This led to Opstandia cutting ties and unrecognising Stret Merdhin and Ashley declaring independence from Opstandia.
2024
The January Elections
With the end of the emergency situation on the 30th of December the Opstandian January Elections began on the 1st of January and would last till the 7th of January. When the elections ended on the 7th of January the seats in the senate were distributed as followed: 4 to the OSP, 4 to the CPO (now PfWO) and 1 to the UO. The OSP seeking a majority in the votes agreed to a coalition with the UO making Ein Bauch Prime Minister and Thomas of the UO the Vice-Prime Minister. During the elections Stret Merhdin declared independence and severed ties with Opstandia meaning her party (the Stret Merhdin Party of Opstandia) was dissolved but kept on the ballot.
OSP-UO Coalition collapse
On the 5th of February 2024 Vice-Prime Minister Thomas announced the UO would be leaving their coalition with the OSP due to ideological differences with the OSP leadership. With the UO leaving the coalition the Opstandian Government collapsed due to the OSP no longer holding a majority and emergency elections were declared. The elections would be one for Opstandia’s heart as the UO and OSP went from a positive relationship to an aggressive violent rivalry. The results of the election would embolden the UO and massively damage the PfWO. The OSP would receive 4 seats, the UO 3 seats and the PfWO 2 seats. The OSP and PfWO would then enter a coalition deal to secure a majority for the Opstandian Government. Ein Bauch was made Prime Minister again with Marigona Sylvester of the PfWO being made Vice-Prime Minister.
OUN-OSP Merge Crisis
On the 24th of February 2024 the Chairman of the OUN, Thomas, retired from Opstandia and handed party leadership over to Soviet Tank. Soviet Tank declined this due to personal issues and so handed the OUN to the OSP, merging the two parties.
Military
Having its origins in private party militias, the Freikorps is the national military of Opstandia. The Freikorps was formed on 21 December 2023, after release of the Opstandia Command from the Baustralian Armed Forces. The Command is the predecessor of the Freikorps, and was formed during the reign of Emperor Jan, commonly known as King John of Baustralia. Upon his yield back to Denver, a contract was signed with authority through the League of Nations, of which Opstandia is a member, retaining Baustralian military defence. It was released in response to a letter addressed to the Fourth Sea Lord and Controller of the Navy – who also holds the records of the Baustralian Army – requesting release, sent by Prime Minister Ein Bauch. It was swiftly approved by the King of Baustralia.
