The National People's Defense Forces are the combined militia forces of the Autonomous Socialist Republic of Griffasus and the main military organization responsible for national defense.
It includes the following branches: the National People's Army, the National People's Air Force, and the National People's Special Forces. Being a landlocked country, Griffasus has no navy.
Organization
The structure of the NPDF is not that of a traditional army. Instead, the NPDF is a democratic militia based on soldier committees and general assemblies. Officers in the ordinary sense have been abolished; instead, all commanders are elected and recallable. Regular mass assemblies are held to discuss policy. The army is based on self-discipline, and all of the army's disciplinary rules are approved by soldier assemblies.
The organizational structure is inspired by the militias created by the anarchists in the Spanish revolution and Spanish Civil War, as well as the Revolutionary Insurrectionary Army of Ukraine.
The NPDF is an entirely volunteer militia, conscription having been abolished since the nation's founding.
