The National Assembly is the legislative branch of the government of Glorosia. It was founded on 28 January 2023 and can be called or dissolved by the presidency. It is unicameral and is the supreme legislative body in Glorosia.
Structure
The Glorosian legislature is a unicameral body and is made up of 35 members, known as deputies. Members are elected by party-list proportional representation and have to have registered their candidacy for office with their party - unless they are an independent candidate.
The assembly is presided over by a Speaker who maintains law and order during sittings and debates.
Eligibility
To be eligible for election to the assembly candidates must be;
- at least 16
- a citizen of the state for longer than 3 months
- never had citizenship or residency revoked at any time
- be of a sound mind and well educated
Role
The primary legislative abilities of the government are vested in the national assembly. As a result of this, they have the primary duties of the assembly are the creation, amending and repealing of laws. As well as this, they have the ability to review and sometimes block legislation proposed by the Presidency and the Cabinet. The assembly can also vote to impeach the president, and if the vote passes the supreme court is then authorised to carry out an impeachment trial.
