Orders, decorations, and medals of USI
The Republic of USI has a complex system of awarding medals, decorations and awards and of orders, which was officially established on 28 June 2014. Some basic medals are shown in the table below; however, new medals, decorations and awards are established on a regular basis, thus requiring a system for the importance of a medal to be instantly recognized without former knowledge.
Awarding the medals, decorations and awards
The process of awarding a medal, decoration and award is relatively straightforward; either a representative of the executive branch presents the recipient with the insignia, or the insignia are unceremoniously sent to the recipient along with instructions on usage.

Coding system for universal medals and decorations
Color, size, insignia and other factors indicate the importance of the medal or decoration (but not necessarily for awards). Ribbon bars are the most important of the insignia, indicating importance of the medal or decorations at a glance. While pure red (RGB 255; 0; 0 ) is, in ribbon bars, the most prestigious color, in combination with flag blue (RGB 49, 15, 253 ), the medal or decoration in question is ranked yet higher. The color of polygons on the ribbons, if there are any, for instance stars, can be an indicator of rank: Platinum (if applicable) = 1st class, Gold = 2nd class, etc.. Their number plays
a role too. The Octagon Medal is a wonderful example of these concepts.
The placing and width of the colors is also of importance. The Honorary Pentagon Medal is instantly recognizable as lower than the Pentagon Medal, 2nd class, because red is a side patch instead of the backround. Ribbon bars have evolved their own terminology.

Orders
While Usian orders are similar to decorations, medals and awards, they imply that the bearer belongs to a certain group. Also, only a limited number of people can be part of an order. Being part of an order can be shown in the bearer's title; Instead of just 'J. William Smith', 'J. William Smith, MFM'. Also, the insignia are substantially different. USI being a republic, the honorary duty of appointing people to the orders falls to the Head of Executive.
