Maximilian I (Maximilian; German: Maximilian; Born 4 December 2003) is a former micronationalist and the former Emperor of Wynnland, having reigned from 2020 to 2024. He was instrumental in the unification of the various principalities and duchies that formed the modern Wynnish Confederation, and his reign has been highlighted for significant reforms and modernization efforts.
Early life and Education
Maximilian was born on 4 December 2003 in Fairfax, Virginia, in the United States. His parents, Frederick William and Rebecca, were living in Northern Virginia at the time. Soon after his birth, his father passed away with Maximilian assuming the head of the house position at the young age of two months old making him the youngest person to ever succeed to the headship of a noble family in history. The family proceeded to relocate frequently before settling in modern day Wynnland in 2012.
From a young age, Maximilian was groomed for leadership, receiving an extensive education in politics, military strategy, economics, and the arts from his grandfather Wayne von Wheatley-Fehlhaber. He had an extraordinary interest in historical politics, battles, and economics. He attended his prestigious local high school, where he excelled in his studies and developed a keen interest in the burgeoning ideas of liberalism and statecraft.
Path to Wynnland
When Maximilian moved into the region that is now Wynnland, it was a fragmented landscape of competing tribal states. One of these tribes was Oxards who took him in as one of their own. Maximilian eventually rose to the position of leader of the Oxards with one goal in mind; power. He expertly crafted a civil conflict between two factions within the Oxards to consolidate his power. Furthermore, he used his diplomatic acumen and made strategic alliances with the local tribal leaders that strengthened his position. By 2013, Maximilian had formed a hegemony of power in his neighborhood. However, Maximilian grew up and found all of this to be childish in nature and dissolved the Oxard State in 2014.
In 2020, Maximilian, alongside a group of high school friends, began to become interested in the 19th century era of politics. Inspired by the successful formation of nation-states that occurred during the 19th century in Europe, Maximilian and his friends sought to form their own nation in 2020. On 1 June 2020, Maximilian and his friends formed the Congress of Doggenburg with the goal of drafting a constitution. On the same day, Maximilian signed the first constitution founding the Kingdom of Wynnland with the purpose of being a political experiment. Maximilian was unanimously elected as the first emperor, ascending to the throne on 1 June 2020.
Reign
Domestic Policy
Maximilian I's reign has been marked by significant reforms and modernization efforts. He has established a centralized government, formed multiple government offices to promote the welfare of citizens, and invested heavily in digital and physical infrastructure including a discord server, website, and a national library. His policies have fostered population growth and communication platforms, transforming Wynnland into a modern digital nation state.
Maximilian also champions education and the arts. He has actively promoted and encouraged his citizens to seek higher education and research. His patronage of the arts has led to a cultural renaissance, with Wynnland becoming a center for music, literature, and digital arts.
Foreign Policy
Emperor Maximilian I is a skilled diplomat, navigating the complex political landscape of the micronational world. He maintains peaceful relations with neighboring countries through strategic alliances and treaties. Some of the micronations that have had or currently have diplomatic relations with Wynnland include Caudonia, Cycoldia, Begon, Monmark, and Ela'r'oech.
Maximilian's foreign policy has also been marked by efforts to expand Wynnland's influence overseas. Under his reign, Wynnland has gained control over several territories including Vogelstadt from Monmark.
