Marana is a micronation founded on 29 April 2016.

Etymology

Marana is Irish Gaelic for 'think'. The founder of Marana (of Irish descent) thought it was clever.

Government and politics

The two main political parties in Marana are the Liberal Nationals and the Social Democrats. The Liberal Nationals want smaller government, border security, deportations of illegal migrants and more limits on legal immigration. The Social Democrats want bigger government (to ensure equality) and a multicultural society - and do not consider mass migration, whether legal or illegal, to be a serious problem. They'd like to see the money spent on building a fence on the border 'used more wisely'.

The Liberal Nationals are currently the largest and ruling party in Marana.

On 2 May 2016, a new political party called the 'Progressive Capitalist Coalition' (PCC) was formed. They describe themselves as being socially progressive and fiscally libertarian.
