Halgwr'gwotir is the official name of the nation, however in English, the nation goes by the Old Kingdom of the Sea or Okinsea, however, most call the nation by its common name, Kingdom of Doggerland(Doggerland). Founded by High King Liam on 30/05/2022, the nation is very young. The nation strives to bring back the wilds of Eurasia through rewilding efforts, especially in terms of missing predators and megafauna.

Etymology

Halgwr'gwotir comes from Cumbric, which means Moorland Man of little land/Kin of the Moors whose land is small, and the people, Halgwri, means Moorland Man/Moorland Kin. Doggerland is a historical and most ancient and traditional land of the Halgwri. The Halgwri are known as people of the moors because their traditional and historic lands were moorlands and hills. The naming 'Old Kingdom of the Sea' comes from the fact that the majority of their historic and traditional lands are currently underwater in either the North Sea, Celtic Sea, Irish Sea and the English Channel.

Doggerland currently is a Monarchy. This works as a High King and Queen as the Highest Authority in the nation, then various regions are ruled by Kings and Queens. Any gender can be in charge of the nation and is House based, a ruling house is elected once the ruling pair has died or reigns from being the High Monarch.


Doggerland has a council made up of 4 houses plus 2 assemblies and each has a certain amount of voting power:


Plebian House: House of the common people. This house has a voting power of 3


Warrior House: House of the Military. This house has a voting power of 2


Religious House: House of those with religious positions. This house has a voting power of 2


Merchant House: House of Merchant and cooperate people. This house has a voting power of 1.


Assembly of Elders: House of those past working age. This house has a voting power of 1.


Assembly of Students: House of those in education. This house has a voting power of 1.


In addition to the above houses, there are the noble houses that include the Minor and Great Houses as well as the current House that is in power(house of the High King and High Queen). Minor Houses have a voting power of 2 and Great Houses have a voting power of 3, with the House in power having voting power of 4. All matters of national importance are put forward by the High King/Queen and they have the final say. In regional affairs, the noble houses can put matters forward and the ruling house of that region gets the final say, and within local working environments matters can be put forward by the Plebian house, and they get the final say. However, in both of these matters, the High King/Queen can veto any decision come to by these houses.


Almost everything within government can be voted on, except for a few things as follows: Military matters can only be voted on by Warrior and the Noble Houses. Merchant Houses can only vote on matters of commerce and still can't vote on direct commerce of the nation. Plebian House can only vote upon matters of labour. To vote for the new High King/Queen, a new Council is called. A Council is a group that advises the High King/Queen during their reign that they have voted upon. A council consists of 1-2 elected individual/s from each house(Prime Minster from the Plebian House, Champion from the Warrior House, High Priest from the Religious House, and Chancellor from the Merchant house, 1 Patriarch and 1 Matriarch from the Assembly of Elders and the 2 Consuls in the assembly of students). This Council can veto a decision by the High King/Queen if it is unanimous.

Doggerland has its roots in the land and the various beings that lived there, and its historical lands were once filled with a variety of ancient and pagan religious practices. The Religions the country officially recognises include Wicca, Druidism, Animism, Siberian Shamanism Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Zoroastrianism, Jainism, Sikhism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Shinto, Taoism, Confucianism, and Tengrism.

Agriculture

With official land to call home, it is hard to produce and export plant and animal products. So many citizens produce plant and animal products on their own land, including in their gardens. These are mainly homegrown vegetables, herbs, and spices as well as flowers. However, sometimes some may have animals they can produce animal products from such as dairy products, meat products, or clothing. Rarely, wild animals may be hunted, but rarely will this be sold off and instead will be consumed and used by those who hunted the animal, gathering wild plants is a lot more common, but still rarer than homegrown plant products.

Industry

The industry largely consists of the making of primitive tools and wares utilising ancient techniques to produce them. The most common are Bows and Arrows and Javelins used for sport, baskets, Jewelry, and other clothing and accessory items.

Tourism is one of the big two pillars of the Halgwri economy. The country is aiming to increase this area as this is one of the biggest potential areas for growth. The country can put on events, sell merchandise and use the Industry sector to produce postcards and stickers, and other such trinkets for people of other countries to buy and increase its economy.

Technology

This is another one of the big two pillars of the Halgwri economy. This includes making games, software and producing media content on social media and video hosting platforms such as Youtube and Twitch to help bolster the economy of the nation. This is easy for the nation to get citizens in as it doesn't require the citizens to be present at set locations, they can be based anyway and produce products that can be sent across the world, hence why the nation is encouraging the growth of this sector.

Doggerland recognises three types of land: Ancient Land: This land was what was known as the Mammoth Steppe as well as the frozen wastes of Northern Europe and the North pole. This is essentially modern-day Eurasian, the Northern Half of North America and the North pole.

Historic Land: This is split between the ancient period and the old period, the ancient period when Doggerland wasn't flooded through, and the old period when Doggerland became what is known as Doggerbank. Today, this land is underwater.

Traditional Lands: These lands consist of the Isles of Scilly, Lundy, Dartmoor, and Yr Hen Ogledd(the Old North). These lands hold a lot of traditions with the nation and the lands where the ancestors of the nation who lived on Doggerland ended up living as their lands sunk under the sea.

In summary, Halgwr'gwotir has connections across Eurasia, North America, and the North Polar Region. The homeland of the nation was sunken thousands of years ago and now lies under the North Sea. The remaining lands which hold traditional value to the nation now lie on various Islands and Highlands in the modern-day macronation of the United Kingdom.

Doggerland has various stories about the land and the ancestors who once lived there. Increasingly, more and more stories are being written as the country's industries are growing. This includes non-fiction and fiction works and includes works on folk-tale histories of the people that once inhabited the land and how the nation came to be.

Cusine

The traditional cuisine includes many different dishes involving local fish, vegetables, and herbs. In addition, some traditional meat includes Venison, Duck, and Pork. The national dish of Doggerland is Saltfish and various locally grown vegetables which may include carrots, parsnips, Scallions, Leeks, Onions, Swede, Cabbage, mixed herbs, and more modern variations may also include potatoes, sweet potatoes, sweetcorn, tomatoes, and chilies. Other big dishes include hotpots and stews, Salmon and rice with egg for breakfast, and Polenta-like food with a pork-based stew. More Traditional foods include nettle soup, Sourdough Bread, Salt Pork, Saltfish, Venison, and all sorts of fresh fish that can be found in the Atlantic Ocean and the rivers of West and North Europe.

Food is a big part of Halgwri culture and their various festivals throughout the year to celebrate food. Halgwri culture encourages sustainable hunting, gathering, and farming, encouraging respectfulness to the nature they kill and eat.

The main sport of Doggerland is Athletics. Within Athletics, the main disciplines include Middle and Long Distance Running and Race Walking. This is based upon the Halgwri's history and love of the outdoors and traveling long distances. In addition to Athletics, other big sports include Archery, Axe Throwing, Knife Throwing, Kendo and Fencing, Modern Pentathlon, Swimming, and Equestrian.

Esports

Due to the fact that many interactions of the citizenry are online, Esports has grown to play a role in the sports of Doggerland. The main games in which Halgwri competes are Age of Empires II and IV, League of Legends, DOTA2, CSGO, Fortnite, Rocket League and Apex Legends. In addition to Esports, there is also interest in Speedrunning within the nation.
