The Kingdom of Arbya, more commonly known as Arbya, is a self-declared sovereign state founded on 4 July 2023 in the United Kingdom. It is known as a micronation by external observers.
The nation is under an absolute monarchy, but maintains a national parliament and a prime minister-lead government. The Arbyan constitution establishes Arbya's political system and was ratified on 4 July 2023.
History
Arbya was founded on 4 July 2023 by King Oswald I of Arbya. The kingdom has been developing since foundation and seeks to become a well-developed micronation.
Initially when it was founded, it spent some time exiting as the State of Arbya and under an anocratic government and a unicameral parliament known as the Senate. The State of Arbya has since been disbanded and reformed on the same day as the Kingdom.
After foundation the constitution was adopted on 4 July 2023. After the constitution was adopted, the kingdom is going through a period of rule by decree.
Politics and Government
Arbya sits under an absolute monarchy with a parliamentary democracy.
Monarchy
The monarchy is an absolute monarchy based on divine right theory. The monarchy is defined poorly in the constitution - with the constitution primarily stating the monarch has absolute power which may go unchecked by any other bodies. The monarch can theoretically amend the constitution at any time and can allow the government to rule or to rule the kingdom directly.
The first and current monarch is King Oswald I.
Prime Minister
The prime minister sits as the constitutional head of government. They normally sit as a member of the Estates General and are appointed by the monarch to serve as prime minister.
The prime minister chairs the cabinet and nominates all ministers for office. They set the government agenda and guides the legislative process in parliament.
Parliament
Parliament is the legislature of Arbya. It was established by the constitution and is bicameral. The Senate sits as the upper chamber and the Estates General sits as the lower house. Both chambers are elected by first past the post. Members of the Estates General represent single member constituencies from within the kingdom. Senators represent dual member constituencies of the kingdom's counties, crown dependencies or overseas territories.
Parliament serves for terms of five years and both houses are elected.
Geography
Arbya claims Palmyra Island as its territorial claims. As the island is uninhabited and isn't fully used by the United States, Arbya claimed it arguing they could use it.
Culture
Arbya is a nation built on Judeo-Christian values and holds Christianity as its national religion. The Church of Arbya serves as the national church. The patron saint of Arbya is Saint Michael. The national symbols of Arbya are the flag and coat of arms.
The national anthem is 'Realm of Honour' and the royal anthem is 'God Save the King'.
